The Phillies beat the White Sox in Friday’s semifinal game, and the White Sox had to beat the Giants on Saturday morning to get into the championship game.
The Phillies-Sox game ends the season for the division, while the 11-12 Babe Ruth players will go into the final games of their championship tournament this weekend.
The next stop is the Babe Ruth All-Star game, with “Papa” Joe Saenz coaching the National team and Chris Lewis coaching the American All-Stars. Those games will be played the weekend after next, June 21 and 22.
Saenz, the Phillies head coach, said his team had a good pitching performance from starter Jacob Serrato and outstanding play from Chandlyr Metal. The Phillies went undefeated in the tournament after a season in which they took first place in the division standings.
Coach George Correia of the White Sox said it was an emotional end to the season. The White Sox went 12-2 in the regular season, with their only losses to the Phillies.
“We have a young team, but we kicked butt,” he said, adding that Alex Camarillo and Tucker Morris each turned in another good performance in the championship. “The boys did really good. I’m proud of them. Twelve-and-two is very good in this league.”
