Millennium athletes named to HCL All-League list
The Harvest Christian League named Jake Vierra to the All-League baseball first team and Mary Sue Savage to the All-League softball first team.
Both players were team leaders during Millennium High School’s first season in league play for baseball and softball.
Vierra, a junior, was the team’s leading batter and pitcher for the Falcons’ season. He had a .433 batting average and 26 base hits over 22 games for the entire season, putting him at the top among Harvest Christian League players in both categories. He also led the league in extra-bases hits, with nine doubles and three triples.
Savage, a senior, was the starting pitcher for all of the Falcons’ softball games and threw two perfect games in the preseason. The first was against Mountain Oaks on March 7, when she faced 15 batters in five innings and the team won 10-0. The second was a 14-0 win against Tioga on March 17, when she struck out 10 of the 15 batters she faced. She also had the second-highest batting average on the team, .441, and had the most base hits for the team with 26. Honorable mentions for the baseball team went to senior Jonathan Beringer, who played on the team all three years and had a .300 batting average, the second highest on the team after Vierra.
Another honorable mention is Brandon Haynes, who batted .244 and was also one of the team’s pitchers.
Honorable mentions for the softball team include Kelsea Eakin, the team’s leading batter with a .462 average, 24 base hits and 13 stolen bases; and Nicole Ochoa, who had a .346 average and 18 base hits and led the team in RBIs with 18. Two members of the Millennium golf team also were named to the All-League honorable mention list. Freshman Ryan Plusch and senior Cameron Davis both made it to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI tournament on May 6. Davis tied for sixth place with a score of 85 at the Castle Oaks Country Club in Ione, and Plusch tied for 11th with a score of 90.
