Gymnastics team 3rd at sections

 


Tracy High School’s gymnastics team took home a third-place finish from Thursday’s Central Coast Section championship meet.

Tracy High’s Jennifer Brawley led her team in all-around score with 36.850 and was 11th in the section results. Breanna Noriega of Tracy High placed fourth in the vault with a score of 8.950 and 17th all-around with a score of 35.400.

West High’s only varsity gymnast, Melissa Marsden, was 22nd all-around with a score of 34.025. Marsden has competed with the Tracy High team all season.

The meet was at Gymtowne Gymnastics in San Bruno and included competition among 64 girls from seven schools.

The Tracy team scored a total of 165.925. First place went to Saint Francis High of Mountain View with 187.6, and Gunn High of Palo Alto was second with 174.6.

Other Tracy competitors included Adrian Havens, 27th, 32.275; Lindsay Lynch, 31st, 29.9; Amira Wignarajah, 32nd, 29.875; Lauren Knapp, 33rd, 29.650.

The Tracy/West team also named its awards for the season, which were presented at the team banquet Tuesday evening.

Brawley was Most Valuable Player for the varsity team, and Pia Valdes was MVP for the JV team.

Wignarajah was the most improved varsity gymnast, and Kristin Barrios was most improved for the JV team. The coach’s awards went to Marsden and JV gymnast Desiree Dram-Munoz.
