A mother writes about neighbors who called police on a group of kids gathered to remember a lost friend.
EDITOR,
First, I would like to say to the family of Denzell Hines, I am sorry for your loss. He was a friend of my son, Chris. My other son, Brandon, was the artist who did many of the shirts and hoodies worn at the funeral.
The night before Denzell’s funeral, as many young people were coming to my house to retrieve their shirts, the unthinkable happened. A neighbor called the Tracy police and reported a fight. The officers showed up, not with one or two patrol cars, but with five.
My grievance is not with the police, because they are doing their jobs, but with the harassment of our family that has gone on since we moved in. My kids are good kids, and their friends are good kids.
