Big Valley beats Millennium in section softball semifinal
The Millennium softball team finished its season Saturday with a loss in the semifinal game of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoffs at Arnaiz Stadium in Stockton.
The Lions from Big Valley Christian in Stockton, the No. 3 seed from the Harvest Christian League, won the morning game 6-2 Saturday and went on to the final game against the No. 1 team from the HCL, Elliot Christian of Lodi. Elliot won the title, 5-4.
Coach Ray Eakin said that, except for the third inning, when Big Valley scored four runs, the Falcons played a solid defense and pitcher Mary Sue Savage held back the Lions’ batters.
Millennium scored its runs in the fifth inning with runners on base and Nicole Ochoa at bat. Ochoa hit the ball to the fence for a two-run double, one of her two hits for the day.
Kelsea Eakin scored one of those runs and went 3-for-3, and Savage also scored one run and went 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Falcons were 9-9 for the season and ended in second place in the Harvest Christian League.
“For the first year in league, to make it to the semifinals in the section is big for the girls,” Eakin said. “We can build on that for next year.” Only three team members will graduate — Julia Robertson, Allison Forrest and Savage.
