A letter-writer is tired of the Press' deteriorating quality. EDITOR, The quality of articles in your newspaper worsens year by year. Your paper has become nothing more than a glorified insert. The Tracy Press should change its name to the Matthews-Connolly Press. Your newspaper prints borderline slander from its attorney, Connolly, who takes the cake. He attacks the developers any way he can, in the new City Hall foyer, in the newspaper — even at City Council meetings. Suggestion to him: Don’t put on any football pads. Is this the Disney Flick Times, or something???
Tracy Press, why don't you ever ask her straight up, if she has a plan, or if she is holding out on us. Did you forget you asked her and she said something about, "Transparency"??? And "Smarter"??? I'm not seeing it any "transparency", or anything, "smarter"!!! But I am seeing a bit of one-sidedness on the side of the TP. I think the little princess has you wrapped around her finger. It is like the blind leading the blind. Three blind mice, including the lawyer, husband Connolly??? Just one question: Someone call the FPP, yet??? written by Chico and the Man??? , May 17, 2008
Chico and Granny,
News flash, The Stockton Record and Tri vally Herald are both accepting new subscribers. Chico Id stay away from the football pads too if I were you. written by My Dear Confused Subscriber , May 17, 2008
CAM,
What you may not realize is that Garamendi is NOT running for office in Stockton (where the majority of the Stockton Record subscribers reside). Garamendi is not running for office in the County either. Garamendi is running for office in the city of Tracy where the Tracy Press is distributed to local residents (for free). The author of this article mentioned "borderline slander" propogating from the *LOCAL* newspaper (the Tracy Press). Coincidentally this is the same city where Celeste Garamendi is running for the office of Mayor of Tracy, CA. Mark Connolly, who was mentioned in the article is Celeste Garamendi's husband. Hope that helps! written by Chico and the Man??? , May 17, 2008
Yea the same goes for you Dear Subscriber if you dont like the publication dont read it and im sure none of you will be missed on this blog either. You guys sound a lot like Connolly everything is a conspiracy. We always dont like it when we see things we dont like about ourselves in others. Try to have a good weekend and if your good boys will give you all Mark Connolly posters for your bedrooms.

Chico and the man,
Many newspapers at least claim that they are trying to be objective, until people "press" them on the issue. Speaking of, do you represent the Tracy Press? If so, does the Tracy Press aspire toward the same goal? If not, what point are you trying to make? If the Tracy Press becomes one-sided, we should hear about it. Thanks for your offer of Mark Connolly posters, but no thanks, just the same! No on Mark Connolly and his wife (mayoral candidate Celeste Garamendi)! written by Greg Clover , May 17, 2008
CJ,
Yes, that's why they can't sell the paper anymore and they *NOW* have to GIVE the paper away. If Mark is paying for it, take multiple copies! That should send them a message. ChicoMan, I just want to know one thing. Did you get paid by the Tracy Press (or just directly from Mark)??? written by Tracy: Not as bad as Connolly/Garamendi want you to think , May 17, 2008
I don't Mark Connolly's involvement will help his wife Celeste Garamendi in her mayoral bid. The Tracy Press really us all a favor by printing Celeste Garamendi's complaints.
And in several articles, for all to see. We have seen Celeste Garamendi making claims that are too big for her to live up to. They seem to have fallen into a trap of "finger pointing". A bad place to be when you have little, or no plan yourself! A little history: First, she claimed that she was for "smarter" development then she gave us TRAQC. Second, she claimed that the developers were getting backroom deals so she gave us a developer witch-hunt. Third, she claimed that she could provide "transparent" government then she provided Mark to make more allegations at the city meetings. Fourth, she claimed she could be mayor and provided nothing to make us want to vote for her. To those doing the research. I would start by asking, Is Garamendi (and Mark) being "transparent"? Or is there something else going on here? You will hear complaints and sure things can be improved. But things in Tracy aren't as bad as Connolly/Garamendi think it is. And you won't hear all the truth from the obstructs. written by Chico and the Man??? , May 17, 2008
Dont like the news go make your own. Dont like the paper start your own or subscribe to another one. To many conspiracy theorists in this town. Your all just like Connolly thats why you dont like him. He doesnt like the council and the developers supporting one another and you dont like the paper supporting him. I didnt hear all of you complaining when The Tracy Press endorsed Ives for 16 years. yiou only complain if they dont endorse your candidate. Boo hoo boo hoo
written by Is the TP 4 sale yet??? , May 17, 2008
Conspiracy? All you have to do is ask her where her "transparent" plan for Tracy is. LOL! It is either *REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, TRANSPARENT*, or it simply doesn't exist.
I recall that she said, "transparent government"!!! Obviously, the Tracy Press hasn't demonstrated that to us. Please! Fill us in on the "transparent" information that she neglected to share with us!!! What does she have to offer, other than more complaints? Nothing, I guess! As I suspected so! Have a good day! written by Inquiring Minds , May 17, 2008
Chico&theMan-
Tell your favorite candidate to make us want to vote for her. Instead of praising your hero, Mark Connolly. Garamendi has nothing for Tracy except several mentions in the Tracy Press newspaper. You got it all wrong. You and Mark make her look bad! written by Chico and the Man??? , May 17, 2008
Since you inquired,
Im voting for Tolbert but I dont have Connolly envy like the rest of you yahoos. Im not wild about Garamendi but I dont see any conspiracy theory. Split Ticket, that's Ives and Tolbert.
They're in trouble, they're going to split 8,472 votes. They want desperately to split Garamendi's 15,260 votes. You can see the trend. Looks like there's some fratricidal elements in the council race as well. Good cop, bad cop. Back to Tolbert and Ives, they split the ticket. That worries heck out of the developers, but when we say developers we are talking about only two, two currently working to pervert tracy politics. Two perversive developers, AKT and Surland. Let's call the development on the table 2 BILLION DOLLARS. 2 BILLION DOLLARS attracts a lot of interest. Remember all those "survey" telephone calls? The "market research" cames back to you as advertising from Ives, two years ago; coming back to you this year. 2 BILLION DOLLARS buys a lot of monkeys typing at keyboards. 2 BILLION DOLLARS is going to generate heat. 2 BILLION DOLLARS set cop on cop. Not enough to care for the police department, got to take cake of Surland, too. 2 BILLION DOLLARS will make otherwise ordinary people appear greedy and reaching, because they will be greedy and reaching. I guess that 2 BILLION DOLLARS was enough to split the Ives/Tolbert ticket. That gives 2 BILLION DOLLARS more control. Is 2 BILLION DOLLARS enough to split Garamendi's 15,260 votes? Who knows, but right now Ives/Tolbert are in trouble. 2 BILLION DOLLARS doesn't like that. Prepare for more "market research" to find it's way into all media, including these posts. Last time. 2 BILLION DOLLARS threw $200,000 against Garamendi. You can see it in these posts, the echo of $200,000. Right now the non-Ives/Tolbert side is solid. That's got to really tick off Ives/Tolbert. Poor Ives/Tobert. Good on Garamendi. written by Mr and Mrs Connolly/Garamendi own the paper??? , May 17, 2008
I think you need glasses, "Chico and theMan",
Just take a look at the front page of today's Tracy Press and see who's name is printed on the front page. It says, "Mark V. Connolly". Who runs the newspaper now? Matthews or Connolly? Benigno used to say he wanted to buy the paper for a dollar. How much did Connolly pay for it??? http://www.connollylaw.net Mark V. Connolly was the author of Tracy Growth Control Ordinance "Measure A" which was passed by Tracy voters in 2000. Mark V. Connolly successfully challenged action by the Tracy City Council effectively repealing part of that voter enacted growth control ordinance. The court found that the Tracy City council committed an "abuse of discretion" in enacting an Ordinance in direct conflict with Measure A. written by Connolly Garamendi Matthews Connection , May 17, 2008

OMG,
Chico and the man- I guess you should have took your own advice and subscribed to the local paper instead of the Stockton Record. Or do you want Tracy to become another Stockton??? Shoulda read the front page of the Tracy Press where Mark has the ONLY advertisement right there on the FRONT PAGE. Then you wouldn't have made assumptions about "Mark V. Connolly". Garamendi has done exactly what for Tracy? Her husband's advertisement across the FRONT PAGE of the local newspaper, in a city where she is running for mayor. I am suspecting just maybe the plans/agenda/issues are falling into place for all the candidates to fine hone their presentation in the direction for Tracy for 2009-2011. Thanks, that's a start.
Please, in fairness, post websites on Tolbert, Ives and candidates in running for ANY office who have served on the city council seat, and those who have yet to serve in the office. Gives us some insight of the "groundwork" the candidates may have set in place/motion... for 2009-2011. Several new businesses did set up during their term. I would like the website covering their involvement in that, too. "Cracker and Barrel" is one that I know of. the current slow growth or zero growth was manafctured by bilbrey, ives, tucker and Tolbert when they chose to build 1500 homes per year dutring the first years of Meausre A. Now the city cant build anything for 5 years. Who created the slow growth?? It wasnt Measure A. Measure A allows 600 RGA's plus 150 infill. That a growh rate of about 3% which is moderate not slow. Measure A is not slow growth... written by Granny Garamender , May 19, 2008
Good thing Ives "manufactured the current slow growth"!
If he hadn't, then we would have as many empty houses as Mountain House. Lots of "rentals" in Mountain House. Isn't that what TRAQC wants? More rentals? More infill? What kind of people will buy infill homes??? The same demographics that are buying the other empty homes next door to the infill homes??? Right! Anyway, it sounds like its time for another Measure?!?!? Go ahead TRAQC! Take your pick: X,Y, or Z??? written by Cliff Notes , May 19, 2008

Why won't they come clean on this? Notice the pretense of being a Tolbert supporter. Come clean Connolly/Garamendi! How much does an election cost??? So much for "transparent government"? Wow, look what the cat just dug up!!!
Isn't it odd that the Tracy Press printed comments from Garamendi, 'Pombo spent too much money on Ives'? Is this the "transparent government" that she told us about??? Garamendi doesn't need a Pombo, when she already has a Connolly??? How long has this been going on??? written by Judas Paterphanelas , May 20, 2008
Ugh!!!
I'm actually feeling betrayed by Garamendi/Connolly. I had no idea! Awful feeling inside! It feels like we've been betrayed. Is it true? Why this after accusing Pombo of similar things - even in the same newspaper? So many articles! So many questions! Why is "chico and the man???" trying to handle the "damage control"??? Is that really Mark, in disguise? Hope the FPP can get involved!!! And if not, just hoping she will have answers, since she promised us a "transparent government"! Ugh!!!! written by Hypocrite Up!!! , May 20, 2008
Fed Up,
I guess the truth is that you LIKE what Garamendi calls "transparent government"??? And after all these years of accusing others of doing the same thing. Transparent government? NOPE!!! Is that more, or less, a polite way of saying Garamendi is a hypocirte and can't come clean? After all it was Garamendi who said that Pombo bought his campaign. AND SHE WAS QUOTED SAYING IT IN THE Tracy Press! Another fine example of "Garamendi's change"??? In fact she was quoted making an AWFUL LOT of claims in the TRACY PRESS!!!! So, why would CG's camp want us to leave it alone??? Because if now we will find out why she gets quoted so much in the TP??? Her husband, MARK V. CONNOLLY??? Paid??? S much for the claim of "Transparent Government"!! Sorry, I don't see "change" with Garamendi!! And I don't want to hear anymore of Celeste Garamendi's "Changing to a TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT". I think we've heard enough! Thanks for the discussion though! Always glad to share my thoughts. written by BarelyLegalNews , May 20, 2008

B-dub,
Actions speak louder than words! By supporting Garamendi/Connolly not having to disclose the amount of money is hypocritical??? Especially when it was Garamendi and the Tracy Press who demanded: 1.) Freedom of information 2.) Transparency in government 3.) Change in government Imagine that! In the same newspaper that was paid?!?!? So, instead of tipping your hat to a hypocrite, just tell your CG to make us want to vote for her! By the way, there are alternatives this November. I for one don't have a particular candidate that I currently support. But what I do support is some better planning around here. I laugh when people say Tracy is a good place to raise a family. This town is going down the tubes and I feel poor planning is a key ingredient. So whoever gets elected. I hope you do a better job, this town needs some serious help. Ah, the light just went on, perhaps we can scrap it all and ask to be annexed by Livermore. At least they seem to plan a little better and can shape up a downtown. written by Hostile takeover??? , May 20, 2008
Mark (or Mike),
Annexation by Connolly ranch? You would probably have to come up with a better excuse! What exactly don't you like about "things" now? Please be more specific! That was a little vauge/thin! Not sure if I am ready to sell you the town to you. Instead suggest you ask TP if they are willing to "sell out"?? written by Mike D , May 20, 2008
Trust me, its definitely not Mark... its Mike. I was making a light hearted statement that our town is not the town it could be. Nothing to do with the Connolly ranch. The point I was making is that this town is poorly planned.
It is not an enjoyable town to walk, ride a bike in, eat in play in, etc. Speeders, Loud music, crappy businesses, bland strip malls etc. We only need to look west and we see a brighter picture. I don't know what Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Livermore are doing, but it looks and smells better than here. I think alot of it has to do with solid planning, a clear vision, a sense of community spirit and enforcement as needed. The comment wasn't a support of Garamendi, I was just saying that I wish things would change alittle around her. And before you say I'm not doing anything to make a difference, trust me I have and will serve to make this city better. And I'll heed my own advise if I think its helpless and move. Peace. written by Hostile takeover??? , May 20, 2008
I see. Just curious because, while the ranch may not be in Livermore, it is in that direction. Did I get that correct? As I am not certain as to the exact location. Anyway, doesn't matter as you are not in Livermore, or Mark.
Thanks for the follow up and clarification Mike. Clear vision is good thing. Is that what Connolly/Garamendi are offering? Not clear to me right now. However, certainly doesnt look "transparent" to me. May have to get more active to find out exactly what is going on. Hoping to get to the bottom of this. Already called the FPP. written by Hostile takeover??? , May 20, 2008
Apparently may not be as complicated as some of those, on here, who are from CG camp think. Notice they seem to get worried about this article. Appropriately so???
However, to be "objective" and "transparent" myself; it is most likely totally up to the candidate to keep promise of "transparency", or not. But, my journalistic instincts tell me to keep digging... written by amy , May 20, 2008
Mike D, same line of thought that I have, you said it well, thanks!
The "poor planning." Also, just in my view, the poor usage of time in serving the public, the voters. Too much time on other agenda outside of voter's wishes. Sure am hoping for a mayor who really can SEE what Tracy needs. AND lead Tracy for a brighter future in growth and new generation of jobs. Thank you. -amy written by Anna Lice , May 20, 2008
Mike,
I believe you have used poor examples for comparisons. Namely, Pleasanton, Elk Grove. Livermore may be closer to a valid comparison, but still a somewhat skewed data point. I'm surprised that other posters didn't pick up on that. We need to be more careful and not make assumptions. Cheers! written by Anna Lice , May 20, 2008
Amy,
Expectations are Growth? and new jobs? Sounds good. However, in this economy I would hope to hear more details please. If possible, could you be so kind as t please sketch out a realistic outline of what we should expect from our candidates over the next several years, including the current year of recession as a factor? Thanks! written by Ubbo Coty , May 21, 2008
I am not going to elaborate on any of the comments here but I will say this one thing, reading the newspaper either on-line or in hard print is an option, if you don't want to, don't. Its very simple. The beauty of the whole thing is that it is a avenue for us to read and (hopefully)share our thoughts. Mr Chico Juarez just excercised his freedom. And so did everyone else who reads this.
written by ..............fppc.ca.gov............. , May 21, 2008
I wonder if Garamendi/Connolly will excercise the option of a "transparent government". The promise was made by Garamendi. Hoping we don't have to wait till there is an outcry from the citizens. Some people have said that the current city council doesn't do what the people want. Do the people want Garamendi to keep her promise of a "transparent government" and if she breaks the promise of a "transparent government" will those same people not bother to vote for Garamendi. Hope they will be willing to excercise the option of not being hypocritical voters! I won't even consider voting for Garamendi unless she and her husband (Connolly) offer full disclosure on how much money was spent on advertising in the Tracy Press!!!
Wasn't the Tracy Press a newspaper where she touted her, "transparent government"? And wasn't the Tracy Press a newspaper that used to "claim" that it stood for the following: 1.) Freedom of information 2.) Transparency in government 3.) Change in government written by ..............fppc.ca.gov............. , May 21, 2008
All I can hope for is that the TracyDems can send us something better! I'm not the only one thinking that Garamendi is going to disappoint us again?
written by Mike D , May 21, 2008
I agree with you Anna that whomever comes in needs to have a clear plan for the next years that includes the current economic situation.
However, I disagree and think the examples of Pleasanton and Livermore are more than fair. Why should we expect something less? Both of those cities are within close proximity to ours. I feel that as a community we have been duped to have a lower expectation. Should I hope our city is more like lower Stockton, Lathrop, Ceres? I don't know, but the downtown Livermore is getting better all the time, is ours? I'm not sure which candidate can give us a better solution. I agree with many previous posts that the current admin isn't doing it. Sadly, the Connelly/Garemendi team doesn't seem to offer much hope. I for one, want more out of a candidate, government. Blind growth isn't the answer, regardless of the economic times we should expect a sustainable growth that is well planned. I'm not asking for Beverely Hills, but is asking for a city similar to Livermore asking for too much? Too much lip service by all parties has been paid to jobs, a good downtown, affordable housing, a safe community etc. It seems the more the talk the less the action on all sides. Its time for the candidates to save the oxygen on the rhetoric and give us a clear plan. written by Anna Lice , May 22, 2008
You should take a stroll around downtown. It is slowly looking better. I went there for the Art Show and was surprised, as I hadn't been downtown for almost a year now. Sidewalks have improved on one street people can walk there and not feel as uninvited, compared to a year ago. I went back one evening and even noticed more police presence (well a little). Anyway, the DTBIA needs to do their thing. Maybe the city could offer some incentives.
All I wonder is why are we waiting for franchises to move into downtown? What we need is enough growth to support the local establishments. Pleasanton and Livermore have that already. We don't. But I am sure of one thing. I bet we have people here in Tracy who have restauranteur skills and who are unemployed (or would be willing to consider a change) and have some business skills. There's the ingredients for the chef's soup we've all been waiting for. All we need is someone to open the kitchens. We need a place to get an egg with hollandaise sauce on top of it and a few more night lifers. If you opened up a few joints like that. Heck I would spend my money there. Why drive to Livermore for breakfast at $4.00 a gallon. If Four Corners isn't going out of business anytime soon DTBIA can do it too!!! This content has been locked.
