A Tracy junior resets the mark a bit higher at the section swim meet.

Tracy High junior Nicole Brown ended her swimming season by setting yet another new school record for the girls varsity 100-yard backstroke.

Her time of one minute, 2.30 seconds put her in fifth place in the consolation race of the Sac-Joaquin Section meet at Tokay High last weekend — and was well ahead of her record-setting first-place finish of 1:03.90 at the San Joaquin Athletic Association league meet April 26.

The old record, 1:05.25, was set by Robyn Wilhelm in 2000. How long the new record stands will depend on if Brown again beats her own best time, something she will have the opportunity to do next year, when she returns as a senior.

Brown first broke the record at the SJAA league trials and then again in the final race in a close finish against Katelyn Griffin of Lodi High.

The competition at the section meet was tougher still. Eight swimmers qualify in each event for the championship race. First place in the 100 backstroke was Cynthia Tsay of Mira Loma High, who finished with a time of 57.70. The eighth-place time in the championship race was 1:01.74. The Sac-Joaquin Section record, 53.85, set by Denali Knapp of Davis Senior High, has stood since 1996.

The ninth through 16th qualifiers compete in a consolation race, where the times ranged from 1:01.28 and 1:03.43.

Brown also helped set a school record in 2006 as part of the 200 medley relay team, which included teammates Sierra Woolsey, Alyssa Britt and Lindsey Sharpe.
