The girls softball teams from Tracy and West high schools begin competition Saturday for the Sac-Joaquin Section championship.

All of the games will be at the Sacramento Softball Complex, 3450 Longview Drive, in Sacramento.

The West High Wolf Pack plays at 10 a.m. against the Thundering Herd of Elk Grove High School.

West tied the Tokay Tigers for second place in the Tri-City Athletic League with a 7-3 record and was 15-12 overall. The Tigers beat West 4-3 in their first league game, but West got the playoff spot because the Wolf Pack won by a larger margin, 5-0, in their second game of league play.

The winner of that game will play either Buhach Colony or Napa High at 2 p.m.
Buhach is the first-place team from the Central California Conference with an 11-1 league record, 19-8 overall.

Napa tied for first with Fairfield in the Monticello Empire League with a 13-2 league record, 23-4 overall, but Napa is the second seed because Fairfield won two of their three games against each other.

Tracy High’s Lady Bulldogs will play their first-round game against Grace Davis High of Modesto at noon.

The Bulldogs were the co-champions of the San Joaquin Athletic Association with the Lodi Flames, with matching 8-2 league records, and ended up as the second seed in the playoffs after a coin flip. The Spartans were the Modesto Metro League champions with a record of 12-3 in league play, 15-10 overall.

The winner of that game will face either Franklin of Elk Grove or Atwater in the second round game at 4 p.m.

Franklin took first place in the Delta Valley League with a 10-0 league record and was 22-3 overall. Atwater was the second-place team from the Central California Conference and had a 10-2 league record, 17-9-1 overall.

The third-round games will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, including consolation games for those who lose in the second round. Those teams will have a chance to move into Wednesday’s semifinals. The championship game will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday.
