West will face Beyer at 4 p.m. and Tracy will take on Golden Valley at 7 p.m. at the UOP campus in Stockton.

Both of the local high school varsity baseball teams begin playoff action Wednesday.

At 4 p.m., the West High Wolf Pack will face off against the Beyer Patriots, the first-place team from the Modesto Metro Conference. West was the second-place team in the Tri-City Athletic League with an 8-2 league record, 18-9 overall. Beyer finished its season 20-7, 14-1 in league.

All Division I South playoff games are at Klein Family Field, near the corner of Mendocino and Pershing avenues on the University of the Pacific campus in Stockton.

Tracy High’s baseball team, the San Joaquin Athletic Association champ, will be in a rematch at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Golden Valley Cougars, the second-place team from the Central California Conference. Tracy is 21-5, 8-2 in the SJAA, and Golden Valley is 17-9, 9-3 in the CCC.

Tracy beat Golden Valley, 3-2, on March 11 in preseason play. That game ended when Tracy left fielder Ryan Scornaienchi hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and end the game.

If West and Tracy both win their first-round games, they will face each other in the second round of playoffs at 4 p.m. Monday. It would be the third matchup of the season for the two local teams.

The Bulldogs won the teams’ first meeting, 8-1, in the final game of the Atwater Tournament on March 27, and Tracy also beat West, 9-6, in the last preseason game April 4.

Other playoff teams in Division I South include Buhach Colony, first place in the CCC with a 10-2 league record, 23-4 overall, and the Lodi Flames, second place in the SJAA. Lodi is 17-9-1, 6-4 in the SJAA. They will play each other at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Grace Davis High of Modesto, second place in the MMC, will play TCAL champion St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. Thursday. St. Mary’s is 17-10, 9-1 in TCAL. Davis is 23-7, 10-5 in the MMC.
