Hi, my husband and I were two cars back and witnessed the whole thing. I, a 3rd

year med student at Standford, jumped out of our truck as I watched the boy fly 20 feet up into the air and arrive at his body 35 yards from where he was hit. I did not find a pulse, but did not perform any other clinical skills. Within 3 minutes EMS, fire and PD were there, where they tried. In defense of the 19 year old driving the Scion- he was not driving fast, let along speeding! We passed him in the left lane in fact. The light both northbound and Southbound on Corral Hollow had been green for a while and there was a steady flow of traffic. We do not know what those boys (skateboarders) were thinking or if they were playing a riske game of "dodge the car", but obviously it ended tragically. I know this will be an ongoing investigation, as sad as the outcome is, but I just wanted to give you a witness's standpoint, and it would be really sad if the public backlashed at the Scion Driver as it was not his fault, he was in the far right lane; and when it's dark outside, YOU have the right away and a dark color skinned person wearing all black clothing darts out in your blind spot (due to other cars in the way), what more can you do but slam on the brakes? We are all saddened and touched by the death of the young boy and all of my husband and I's sympathy goes to his family. I just hope when a finalized police report is published with all this info, it won't be too late for the young man who was driving the Scion's reputation. After all, for the rest of his life he will, without a doubt, everyday think and be crushed that he "killed" a person, even when the driver was not at fault. report abuse

I wonder if this was the same group of teenagers that I saw Friday. I was stopped at the intersection of Lowell and Corral Hollow Friday night and a group of teenagers (including at least one on a skateboard) ran out in front a car on Corral Hollow. Then when my light turned green the rest crossed in front of my car except for one girl that stayed on the sidewalk. Dangerous games have dangerous and sometimes fatal conclusions.

This is a bad dream that just wont go away. This is an horrible thing that shouldnt have happened in Tracy. I was not at the scene like CRYSTAL but it felt like I was. I know both people, the driver and Denzell. This wasnt something that was suppose to happen. Nobody would ever want this. We all wish we could go back and fix it. I know the driver would NEVER intend on hitting someone. It was not his fault. and as of Denzell, nobody wanted him gone. Nobody would want this. I knew Denzell and he was a great kid. He met him last year because I knew his brother Dominique. Denzell could always make me laugh even tho he really just wanted his food from the West High Student Store. He will be missed by many especially me. But for this tragedy Im stuck inbetween... I Love you Denzell && I love you driver!!! RIP DENZELL HINES

Back in 1983 I was 17 years old. My friends and I were driving home from a sporting event. We were coming up to a red light in the distance. We were in the far right lane and two cars, one in the middle lane and one in the left lane were at a complete stop. As soon as she put on the brakes to slow down the light turned green and we continued on through the intersection. We were unable to see that a 7 year old girl ran out in the crosswalk. We hit her giong about 35-40mph. It was devastating. I was the first on the scene and checked for a pulse. She did not seem to be breathing. Luckily the Fire Station was right across the street. They ran over in seconds. Luckily she survived. It was a horrible ordeal that I will never forget. My friend, the driver, was devastated. In the end, the 7 year old girl was ruled to be at fault. I feel for all invloved. My prayers go out to all of you. Please kids, if the sign does not say "walk" - don't cross, especially at night.

I'm J.J. Soto. Denzell was my brother Jacobs best friend. Denzell was like Urkel to my House's Family Matters!! Over my house EVERYDAY! there are many great and positive, funny and silly moments me and my family have with Denzell. He got along with my youngest brother and my nephew as well for they loved his dog and loved to skateboard. two days ago he walked with my grandpa down cypress to barcelona while he skateboarded and held onto my grandpa's scooter! he was well liked by the whole family! I Loved Denzell because I Knew that he was an Outlet for my brother. They had similar past and really bonded well and were there for eachother. When things were hard on my brother Jacob and I couldnt do anything.....Denzell was there. LoL he tryed to join my brothers basketball team Just so they could hang out even More! He wasn't even really a basketball player. He loved to skateboard! I remember one day Denzell and Kingsley were over...it was a really Hottt Day....Jacob showed them how to do a kickflip skateboarding and in pouring sweat they were trying to get it down for the next 2 hours! They didnt know but i saw them from upstairs. All of my brothers friends are good kids...have great hearts....just at times they make the wrong decisions. Denzell, Kingsley, Josh, Doogie, Scoob, and my brother Jacob were all really tight. Now Denzell's in Paradise. He's not gone for he will forever live on in our hearts. Its not our loss, but its Denzell's Gain for he's up above in Heaven now.

I pray that the group stays tight AND POSITIVE...Help pick eachother up. Its time for Everyone to start making Better Decisions. We all have to be supportive of the youth thats out there and be positive and help them to have brighter futures. The four boys in Juvi (including my brother) have some of the most outgoing personalities i know! they are not bad kids, just at times make poor decisions. They dont deserve to be there. Lets all help to channel their energy into positive enery. Kingsley, im praying for you. All the guys in, they said they Love you and Miss...thats real. Stay strong, be a leader. Stick together. any Brother of my brother's....is a brother of mine. My Prayers go out to the Hines Family. If you need ANYTHING...Please dont hesitate. We're only like 5 houses down. Denzell I pray that you watch over all of us. Watch over my brother. Watch over your family and friends. You will forever live in all of us and forever be missed. Thank You for being a Crutch to my Brother...When as his Older Brother I was unable to. What you've done for Jacob cannot even be put in words...I am forever Grateful for that! We Love You, We Miss You.

Whoever is posing as John Holland and Bret Clifton are idiots. You don't even know how to spell the name correctly. This is nothing to joke about. John Holland is in a tremendous amount of pain and shock right now. Give a brother some room to deal.....Bret WAS speeding and M. Our prayers go out the Hines family as well as the family of the driver of the vehicle. Gods hands are in place, Denzell is home with the lord. When faced with questions of "why" close your eyes, lift your hands and pray. You must celebrate the life of the young Mr. Hines, God knew his heart and for those of you that knew him, remember the good things about him and let that be a lasting memory.

My Daughter knew him and she is very sad and taken aback by all this. He will be missed and remembered with nothing but Love! Please all my young people please take the time to look before you leap... Cars cannot and do not see you... It so easy to blame folks for this or for that ... But the bottom line is we need to look out for each other always not just when accidents happen. Yes. Your a Big Boy or a Big girl but your not invisible. So as parents we wish that we could be with you every step of your day to make sure that no harm comes to you .. But the reality is that we can't and we want and pray that you all Be responsible at all times.. Save your cockiness to make millions...Put your I'm the badest muther into your future and your career.. Its so much more for you all beyond high school..You can have your own skateboard park in your backyard You feel me . So please keep your risk taking to a minimum... since this Guy was such a guy that was concerned with making everyone smile... You as the homies should do something constructive and positive for him in his honor ... Teach the young skateboarders how to stay safe.. its just a thought.. Much love to the families...

Condolence to the Hines family. Always remember that God is with you in times of tragedy like this. To Denzell's friends make him proud. The way he showed the love and concern to each one of you. Give Love to the other party (John Holland) to give him peace because I'm sure he did not mean to do this to your friend. God used Denzell to show what LOVE really meant. The smile that he brought to each one of you. It's time give that back to Denzell...he does not want you guys to feel down...this is not the end of his life but this is the beginning of his life with the Father in heaven. God is a fogiving God so you must forgive and not judge Mr. Holland. It's Denzell's time, which God knows that he's time on earth is done. Peace to each and everyone...Mrs. Hines, sorry for the loss of your son...God Bless to Hines and Holland family...

What a tragic loss to lose someone so young. This post is not about someone who didn't act, it's not about the 19 yr old driver of the vehicle, it's about a 16 yr old kid who died tragically. There are lots of kids who ride skateboards who should now realize that they're as vulnerable as Denzell. Be careful crossing the streets or riding your skateboards in the street. Also, if you insist on riding your skateboard at night, please wear light clothing so drivers can see you. This also goes for the kids who ride their go-peds at night. You're traveling a lot faster than someone on a skateboard and something motorized, at night, should have the proper lighting equipment. My condolences to both families.

THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!! Neither of these kids deserved this! Bubba is an awesome kid any mom would be proud of. he is a loyal friend & stays out of trouble. He is a great friend of my son's & is going to be deeply scarred by this horrible accident!!!! I did not know Denzell, but he too sounds awesome! He doesn't sound like the type to go out looking for trouble. He also sounds like a peace lover. I am sure he would want you to let him go in peace not war against the other innocent victom of this mess. Don't shame him by disrespecting. It is going to be hard enough for this extremely caring soal to come to grip with the idea of a wonderful human life lost at his hands. We should all be praying for him, not judging him. As for the comment on speeding, Do you know how fast 40mph really is? FAST, This is why your bud flew so high & far. 40mmph is the speed limit. He did not need to go any faster than that to fly. That same morning while dropping my daughter of at Tracy High, we saw a kid get hit right next to us. That cat was going no faster than 10mph, we were all stopped. That boy flew a good 15ft & hit extremely hard. SO PLEASE, Stop looking for blame & honor your brother with some peace & love.

I arrived at the scene a few seconds after the tragedy had happened. It was surreal and the emotions of that moment are something that cannot truly be explained. I saw John Holland sitting on the sidewalk in absolute despair. John Holland would have given anything to be home that night. It was in his face, the way he was trembling, the cracks in his voice when he was trying to talk. I do not know Holland but I saw him right after the accident, my heart goes out to him, in him you could see so much pain and so much sorrow. It is human nature to want to blame, but blaming John Holland is unfair and unjust. Life has accidents and accidents are just that, accidents. It must be so hard for those that loved Denzell Hines to have to deal with this accident. I am so sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers. I do not know Denzell Hines but I have stopped by that corner a few times now and through the people that knew Hines I am proud to say he was an amazing human being. report abuse

I do not know if Holland was speeding, or what happened as I arrived at the scene a minute after it happened. I did not see the accident with my own eyes or the moments before the accident. But what I saw with my own eyes is whom I presume was Crystal doing everything she could do to try to help the situation. Her husband got into the street trying to direct traffic away from Denzell until help arrived. From Crystal and her husband’s actions I believe in everything they saw. I also believe what Crystal meant with the comment, “a dark color skinned person wearing all black clothing,” had nothing to do with skin color but just trying to reiterate about the dark factor that could have played a big role in this accident, Hines had a black sweater on, and it would have been real hard to see Denzell in that situation let alone anyone else. I believe it was Crystal that was trying to console Hines’ friend at the scene who was in complete shock as anyone in his situation would have been. As for that poor young man, the look on his face will never leave me. It is tattooed in my memory. My heart also goes out to him, I am sorry about your loss.

Everything ran together and everything happened so quickly. I remember jumping out my car and getting to Denzell as the cops got there. To the Hines family, I am so sorry there was nothing I could do. I remember looking at him and he looked so peaceful, he did not look like he was in pain. As the police officers did their best with the situation I listened to the witnesses and the general consensus was Holland was not at fault. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time, as was Hines.

I believe sometimes God takes those who are just too good for this world. Sometimes God realizes that some people are needed in paradise to do His work more than they are needed on earth. I do not know Denzell Hines but I know what Hines meant to his friends and family. And through them I feel a closeness to Denzell Hines. I think all of us who were at the scene and saw this tragedy will always keep Denzell Hines in our hearts. I think all of us wanted to do more, wanted to hug him, heal him, grab him, get him out of the road, but everything we are thought in the field of medicine goes against that. I am proud of Crystal and I am proud of her husband. I am proud of all the people that pulled over and tried to get involved and did not just drive off like nothing had happened, its good to know humanity exists. And most of all I am proud of knowing Denzell Hines loved to smile and make people laugh. To the Hines family I am so sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace Denzell Hines, you will be truly missed. First of all, i am sincerely sorry for both families and hope that the healing process can begin soon and the pain end quickly. I have been on both ends of this situation, the driver and losing someone I cared about. I was in an accident a while ago and it was deemed to be my fault. I know I hurt the other parties involved and it haunts me every day. It is called an ACCIDENT for a reason, no one really MEANS to hurt anyone in this way. While for the victims family it is rough, it is also difficult for the driver and their family. Just remember to keep your mind open and both families will be in my prayers. It is so sad that so many so young lose their lives in these violent ways.

It is very say what has happened. My thought and prayers go out to both of their families. It was very unfortunate that Dezell Passed. I didnt even know him, but I still feel grief. I feel very bad for the Holland Family. John was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Denzell and John both were. People need to understand that it was an accident. I know who John is and I have had him in one of my classes and I know that he would never wish this on anyone. My prayers are with Him. I know that Tracy suffered from an incident like this in Jan of 2007. We dont want to lose anybody else. I know people that were good friends with Denzell are angry about the whole thing and they are allowed to be. But you dont have to blame John. He wouldnt want this to happen to anyone. They were both in the wrong place and the wrong time and that is why this is call an accident. God just wanted to call Denzell home. god bless!!

I am very sorry for your loss. And I hope the young man who was driving can find a way to heal. God Bless. And RIP. Pictures of all who mourned this young man on Saturday were sent to the editor so an article can be written in his honor. Hopefully we can read about his life and always remember him the way his loved ones did.

I was there that night, waiting to turn left onto Corral Hollow when it happened. I pulled over and called 911. It was extremely dark. But not too dark to see the agony and sadness in many of the faces at the seen. I will not go into the details of what I saw or heard, in the way of the accident. I do want to address the strong and true sense of humanity and caring I experienced that night. There were so many people that stopped and directed traffic and consoled the driver, the friend, Denzel's brother and mother. It was surreal to say the least but the amazing thing was how everyone pulled together and seemed to know exactly what part they needed to play in this tragedy. I have a renewed sense of appreciation for my fellow man. I hope that everyone can see the good in how everyone pulled together. My heartfelt prayers go out to Denzell's family and friends, Mr. Holland and his family, and Denzell's friend. The one who was with him, the one whom I knew and who knows me. If there is anything, anything at all that I can do for you, please contact me. You know where I am. Rest in Peace Denzell. May God's loving comfort be with everyone involved. Please keep praying, it is true that there is strength and power in many people praying together.

To the Hines family I pray that God will give the strength and peace to help you through. My family and I are praying for all the lives that sweet Denzell has touched. My boys knew him and are sadden by this trajedy. I pray that everyone remembers Denzell and his beautiful smile, how it lit up the heats of all that loved him. I didn't know hin personally but just reading the comments of you that did fills my heart with joy. Just know through Christ you can make it through these hard times and always watch out for those that might not watch out for you.

i didn't know Denzell but hearing what people have to say about him i am sure he was a great guy. nobody knows for sure what happened that night and so far all we have is what people have said. its not right to speculate and blame everyone and everything based on your own personal opinion. I am 16 years old as are others that have been on here and i think we all have a bit more maturity to simply say things about Denzell rather than blame someone like the adults on here. im not saying that someone isn't at fault but until we all know for sure how about we just stick to being a helpful loving community. Leave Bret out of this too. He has nothing to do with it and he has suffered enough. he has an everyday reminder and doesn't need anyone on here to remind him. all my love, prayers, and support to the Hines. RIP DENZELL.

formabruh I know you are upset, but think you need to reread what Crystal stated. She didn't say anything about games, that was blogger "dae". I could get pissy with you about your messed up facts, but will try to sympathize with your pain. The police are doing their investigations & will be done soon. Give them a chance. I think you will be surprised. Another thing, when you as a pedestrian cross at a cross walk at an intersection, you too have to obey the law & cross on a green light. You do not have the right to jump out into the cross walk at a whim. Please stop trying to hate & respect your friend by doing the hardest thing to do, forgive. There were more than One victim in this whole mess. Put yourself in the Scion. Nobody can stop a car on a dime when traveling 40mph, nobody!

To formabruh, I think you're stupid because you can't spell or form complete sentences. People will take you more seriously and give you more respect when you show respect for yourself and the English language.
