Tracy High’s girls soccer team missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot Wednesday, but it got a reprieve today after the Lincoln High Trojans beat the Lodi Flames.

The three teams went into their last games today with Lincoln in first place in the San Joaquin Athletic Association with an 11-1-2 record, Lodi second at 11-2-1 and Tracy third at 10-3-1.

Tracy won its last match 5-0 against the Franklin Yellowjackets, and Lincoln beat Lodi, 2-0. That puts Tracy and Lodi tied for second place, but Tracy beat Lodi in two of the three league contests between the two teams, which gives it an edge.

West High also ended up tied for second place at the end of the Tri-City Athletic League season.

West lost its last game of the season today at home as undefeated St. Mary’s prevailed 4-1. West coach Able Dorado said that leaves his team tied for second with Tokay at 6-3-1 in the Tri-City Athletic League.

Tokay and West tied 2-2 on Wednesday in their match in Lodi, but Tokay beat West at Plasencia Fields last month. Dorado said he still needs confirmation from the league to see if that will put West out of playoff contention.

St. Mary’s 4, West 1

In today’s game at Plasencia Fields, the Rams started with a 2-0 lead and West came back with one goal in the first half by Solveig Barnes, assisted by Natalie Shaw.

St. Mary’s scored one more to go into the half with a 3-1 lead and scored again in the second half.

Dorado said his team played a tough game against St. Mary’s, which won the teams’ first matchup 7-0 on April 16.

“They’re a strong team,” he said. “We played a lot better today.”

Tracy 5, Franklin 0

Tracy won its last game of the season today at Franklin. Alexis Poppoff and Melissa Worthington each scored two goals, and Andrea Garcia also scored for the Bulldogs. Poppoff had three assists, and Sara Ballard also had an assist.

Lodi 2, Tracy 1

After Tracy beat Lodi in their two previous matches this year, forward Breahna Berry said the tough part of Wednesday’s 1-2 loss to Lodi was seeing the Flames do the things this time that Tracy should have done to win.

“We could have pressed better and talked more,” she said. “That’s how they got around us, with their communication.”

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the second half, and with less than 10 minutes left, the Lodi forwards charged down the middle, past the Tracy defenders, for a clear shot at the goal to go ahead 2-1.

West 2, Tokay 2

Barnes scored West’s first goals in the first half with an assist from Shaw. The Wolf Pack and Tigers went into the half tied 1-1, and Tokay took the lead with a goal early in the second half. West scored again on a goal by Kristy Fojo, assisted by Damaris Vasquez, to tie the game.

(JV) Tracy 7, Lodi 2

Tracy led 5-0 going into the second half Wednesday, which took some of the pressure off the Bulldogs in the second half. Both Tracy and Lodi scored twice in the second half.

Tracy’s top scorer was Marissa Matta, who scored four goals. Melissa Aboud had three assists.
