A Lodi goal at the end of the second half of Wednesday’s soccer match at Plasencia Fields gave the Flames the 2-1 win and means the Tracy girls soccer team must await the outcome of toay’s games to see if the Bulldogs will have a shot at the playoffs this year.

Tracy, 10-3-1 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association, is favored in its match against Franklin, but the contest that could mean the playoffs to the Bulldogs will happen at Lodi when the Lodi Flames, 11-2-1, meet the Lincoln Trojans, 11-1-2, for their last game of the season.

If Lincoln wins or ties the Trojans take sole possession of first place and Lodi and Tracy tie for second. If Lodi wins the Flames take first place, the Trojans will be second and the Bulldogs would finish in third, just short of a playoff berth.

Had Tracy won Wednesday’s match it would have put the Bulldogs in second place, and Tracy would just need to beat Franklin to make the playoffs.

“(Lodi) knew that with a tie or a loss they were out,” Tracy coach Joe Perry said. “They just knew they had to have it and they put forth a better effort.”

Tracy beat Lodi in their two previous matches this year. Tracy forward Breahna Berry said the tough part was seeing Lodi do the things this time that Tracy should have done to win.

“We could have pressed better and talked more,” she said. “That’s how they got around us, with their communication.”

The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the second half, and with less than 10 minutes left the Lodi team charged down the middle, past Tracy defenders, for a clear shot at the goal to go ahead 2-1.

Tracy led 5-0 going into the second half, which took off some of the pressure off the Bulldogs in the second half. Both Tracy and Lodi scored twice in the second half.

Tracy’s top scorer was Marissa Matta, who scored four goals, and Melissa Aboud had three assists. Also scoring was Alyssa Strope, Danielle Stepanoff, Alyssa Ciraulo and Aboud. Assists were also credited to Taryn Jones, Strope, Bryanna Noe and Ashley Arteaga.
