Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton, the 2005 track champion at Altamont, started out leading 21 cars in the first Western Late Model 50-lap race. Philpott moved from the eighth position to Gilbert’s rear bumper within the first 11 laps.

A caution on Lap 46 put Gilbert and Philpott even with four laps to go, but Philpott pulled away on the restart to claim the win.

Others in the top five were Greg Potts of Manteca, Doff Cooksey of Brentwood, Tim Spurgeon of Danville and Colby Potts.

In the second 50-lap feature, Guibor led the entire race to win in his fourth start on the paved oval. Philpott and Andrew Livengood of Richmond dueled for second, and with just a few laps remaining, Philpott dropped into third as he went to the pits with an apparent overheating problem.

In Grand American Modified action, Lynch worked his way past 2007 runner-up Todd Lewis of Riverbank to take the feature win in a close finish. Robert Kennedy of San Francisco, Jose Gutierrez of Modesto and Morgan Cooksey of Brentwood were also in the top five.

Solari won his second ALSC main event of the year. Solari set a new track record in the qualifying heat and took the lead from Steve Philpott on lap seven of the main race. The top five were Solari, Joe Allen of Stockton, Zack Huffman of French Camp, Tim Rappa of Hayward and Richard Harper of Stockton.

Three young drivers took to the Altamont quarter-mile in the new Future Champions Development Series. Cameron Millard, 14, of Carson City, Nev., Potts, 14, of Manteca and Tyler Thomas, 15, of Loomis competed. Potts, a former go-kart champion, ran the fastest lap of the day with a time of 14.679 seconds.

Wilson and Wilson Motorsports won both 10-lap events for the Formula-4 division on the 1.1-mile Altamont road course. The rest of the top five in the first main event were Leo Solari, Dan Durbin, Jake Morgenstern and Richard Hull.

The top five in the second event included Robert Lopez, Hull, Jim Robbins and Jake Morgenstern.

Altamont Motorsports Park is dark this weekend but will open again May 10 and 11 for “24 Hours of LeMons,” two days of racing for cars costing $500 or less. Close to 100 cars and 500 drivers are expected to compete in the event.

Oval racing returns May 17 with the USAC Western Sprints and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Models.
