Tracy High parent writes about something she says has been forgotten at the school.
EDITOR,
I am a parent who spoke at the Tracy school board meeting Tuesday night. Parents, students and teachers addressed the board regarding the decaying and deplorable conditions of the Tracy High athletic facilities.
I applaud the board for approving the two new classroom buildings at Tracy High. However, the conditions of the athletic facilities can no longer be brushed aside.
The board was also addressed regarding these same conditions in 2005. At the time, we were told to go out and help get Measure E passed so there would be funds available to fix these problems. Measure E successfully passed in 2006, and our facilities are in the same or worse condition now as they were in 2005.
The “we’ll get to it in the future” attitude of the board needs to change. As a parent and taxpayer, I was offended by Trustee Gregg Crandall’s comments that the school board meeting was not the proper forum to address these issues. What is the proper forum? The state Department of Education? The Department of Public Health? A courtroom?
We waited patiently while West High received its much-needed athletic facilities. We will no longer sit quietly while waiting for the board get around to Tracy High. The health and safety of every kid, teacher and visitor to our facilities are at risk. That should be reason enough to act now!
