Free hazardous waste drop off

The city of Tracy and the county of San Joaquin will accept all household hazardous waste from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Municipal Airport, 5749 S. Tracy Blvd. 

Accepted items include paints, solvents, chemicals, batteries, used oil and filters, propane tanks and other waste.

No explosives or radioactive items will be accepted.

Parent club fundraiser

West High School Senior Parent Club will host a Texas Hold ’Em tournament from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Tracy Moose Lodge, 35 E. Sixth St.

Cost is $25 for adults and $20 for high school seniors, which includes appetizers, buy-in and chances to win raffle prizes. Proceeds will go to the West High senior class graduation cruise.

Safe teen driving

The Get Real Behind the Wheel committee and Altamont Motorsports Park will host an on-track safe teen-driving event for kids and their parents from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the raceway at 17001 Midway Road outside of Tracy.

Teen drivers must be between 14 and 18 and accompanied by an adult. They can use the pit and track areas for driver’s training in their own cars.

South Side meeting

The South Side Improvement Association will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at El Castillo Restaurant, 600 N. Central Ave.

Space needed

Francoise Greenwalt, organizer of a nonprofit seminar called Weight Loss Challenge, is in search of a place where the eight-week seminar can meet as early as next week. Greenwalt expects about 30 people to be at each Tuesday and Thursday evening session.

Senior forum

The Tracy Golden Agers will host a forum where a handful of politicians will take questions from the audience and discuss how they are working to solve problems faced by seniors.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at the Tracy Community Center, 950 East St. For information: 831-4230.

 

Interfaith fundraiser

Tracy churches are invited to participate in a “Mother’s Day miracle” fundraiser for Tracy Interfaith Ministries.

Tracy Interfaith urges people on May 11, Mother’s Day, to tithe 10 percent of their federal rebate, give a dollar for each year their mothers cared for them, give a dollar for each year of their mothers’ life, or just give an amount in memory of all caring moms.

McHenry House barbecue

The McHenry House Family Shelter will have a 10th anniversary barbecue from noon to 3 p.m. May 4 in the backyard of McHenry House, 757 A St.

The barbecue is free, and the public is invited to enjoy the celebration with hamburgers, hot dogs, cake and other treats. An awards ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Shrimp feed

The Tracy Elks Lodge will have an all-you-can-eat shrimp feed starting at 5:30 p.m. May 10 at the lodge, 6400 E. 11th St.

Dinner includes shrimp, pasta, bread, salad and dessert. The cost is $25 per person.
