A local gymnast qualifies for a national competition. Tracy’s Justin Woo, a member of the Northern California All-Star team, competed at the 2008 Region 1 Gymnastics Championships in Reno from April 3 to 6. His all-around score of 74.6 in the 12- and 13-year-old Level 9 division qualifies him to compete at the U.S. Junior Olympic Nationals in Battle Creek, Mich., May 7 through 11. Woo finished seventh in the high bar, with a score of 12.15, and seventh in the parallel bars, 13.25. A finish in the top six at the state meet in Lodi in March allowed him to compete against other top gymnasts from Hawaii, Nevada, Arizona and Southern California. The Northern California team finished second behind a consistently strong SoCal team.
The team from Classic Gymnastics of Tracy went to the Golden Bear Invitational in Berkeley on Sunday. Other gymnastics teams at the event included Lamoreem, San Francisco, Monterey, Golden Bear and Peninsula.
