A student suggests a change of schedule for Tracy's middle grades.
EDITOR,
Middle schools should be exposed to the idea of having a minimum day every week. Tracy High does it, and so should we. But instead of Mondays, we should have it on Thursdays.
Thursday is a good day to get out of school early, because Friday is a day that most teachers like to schedule pop quizzes and unit tests and make reports or projects due.
If we get out at 1 p.m. Thursdays, we can study for those assessments and, therefore, ace them. The extra two hours can also allow those students who have busy lives or like to do things at the last minute to cram their projects or reports.
Minimum days are an advantage not only for students, but for the teachers as well, because they can take this time to grade the work we did the past four days. Therefore, we will receive our corrected work back on Friday and have time to analyze it to see our current progress that week. So if you failed on a pop quiz or test, you know ahead of time to work harder next week. Teachers would also get some extra quality time for their social lives.
I hope the district administration considers this for next year.
