Red flags on hiring Print E-mail
Written by Kim Chapman / For the Tracy Press /

A letter writer's not so sure about the new city manager.

EDITOR,

I really find it hard to believe the city of Tracy had to go all the way to Pennsylvania to find a new city manager. The man they hired, Leon Churchill, sure did skip from town to town, according to his resume. Raises flags in my book.

I sure hope it’s for the best and not the worst, for Tracy’s sake.

His salary jumped from $118,000 in PA to $191,000 in CA. Can you blame him?

I don't think he could possibly be worse that what we had.

That's what Stockton said before they hired Lewis.

Maybe they didn't want the hire to know too much about their "dirty laundry", otherwise the local would have seen it aired time after time and have known the truths? Just my opinion. Just hope he will dazzle us with outstanding results for the City of Tracy for the pay of $198,000?

Flags shouldn't be raised. A good town manager works on getting experience in all facets of local government and that may include working in a variety of municipalities. I'm from one of the first towns Mr. Churchill worked in. He was able to accomplish quite a bit. Many here still follow his career and wish him the best of luck.

Can someone tell me if he was forced to leave his previous job in PA? This is what I have heard.
