Another school record fell this week when Tracy High first baseman and cleanup batter Vince Canale hit a triple in the Bulldogs’ 14-5 win Wednesday against the Franklin Yellowjackets.

Canale tied former Bulldog Kevin Hollenbeck’s 1991 record of 59 career runs batted in when he hit a two-run single in the second inning and set the new record with his two-run triple in the seventh.

As of Friday, after Canale drove in three more at home against Franklin, the school record is 66 RBIs for a single player during a varsity career with the Bulldogs team.

Canale said he never had school records on his mind until the team’s coaches compiled historical statistics and Stu Jossey, father of team member Brandon Jossey, included them on the team Web site, www.tracyhighbaseball.com.

“I wasn’t sure how close I was until they posted on the Web site that I was two away,” he said.

“The more you think about it, the harder it is to get it.”

Instead, he said, he tries to concentrate on his job as the fourth batter in the lineup, usually coming up to hit when the hitters at the top of the batting order are on base.
Canale, a senior who has been on the varsity team since his sophomore year, is the second player

on this year’s squad to set a new school record.

Left fielder Ryan Scornaienchi set the record for total base hits on March 27 when he passed Steven Alkire’s record of 75, set in 1992. Scornaienchi’s two-run homer Friday put the new record for total base hits at 82.
