Games turned into home run derbies for local teams this week.

Tracy High junior Devonne Alaoan knew she had to make a statement in her first varsity softball start. But even she was surprised to see the ball go as far as it did on her second trip to the plate.

From her vantage point at home plate, it looked like it was headed right to the Cesar Chavez Titans center fielder, and she started her sprint around the bases before she realized that she had just hit a two-run homer.

“I didn’t really think I had it, but it cleared the fence,” she said. “It felt pretty good.”

They were the third and fourth runs in a four-run fourth inning and a 10-0 win over the Titans at the Tracy Sports Complex. The game was called on the mercy rule after Alaoan drove in another run in the fifth, Morgan Hayes drove in two on a double to the center-field fence and Jessica Riconscente drove in the 10th run on a shot that mirrored Hayes’ drive.

The game was also a no-hitter for Hayes, who already has a no-hit game this season plus a few one- and two-hit games.

“It’s just working on hitting my spots,” said Hayes, who threw eight strikeouts in five innings.

Tracy is now 3-0 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association and 12-6 overall.

West 21, McNair 0

Elida Rubio led off with a triple in the first inning and followed up with a grand slam in the second to lead the Wolf Pack a 21-0 win over the McNair Eagles on the road in Stockton on Tuesday.

West ended up with an 11-run second inning, and the game ended after five. Coach Steve Anastasio said walks from McNair’s pitchers accounted for many of West’s baserunners.

Rubio knocked in six of those runners, and Gina West drove in three. Ashley Cox, Cherie DeJesus and Bryanna Enterline also collected some of West’s 12 hits.

Anastasio said McNair has a fairly new team, so his players knew going into the game that it would not be an even match.

“They’re a second-year varsity team, and they’re still working out their kinks,” he said.

It did give him a chance to field some of his players in positions they don’t usually take. Rubio, who usually plays second base, and Cox, who plays first, both got to pitch. They and regular pitcher Brittaney Enterline kept the Eagles to two runners.

West is now 3-0 in the Tri-City Athletic League and 11-9 overall.

(S) Tracy 10, Chavez 0

Piper Johnson hit two home runs for three RBIs in the second and third innings, and Natalya Motyka and Taylor Slabaugh each homered in the fourth to lead Tracy to a 10-0 win Tuesday over the Chavez Titans at the Tracy Sports Complex.

Stephanie Fisher had eight strikeouts in the first four innings and was two outs away from a no-hitter when a Chavez batter tripled with one out in the fifth. The infield took care of the shutout, as the next batter flew out to second base and the runner at third was caught on the back end of the double-play.

Tracy is 3-0 in the SJAA and 9-2 overall.

(S) West 23, McNair 0

The West sophomores had eight hits and McNair’s pitcher gave up a lot of walks Tuesday.

It meant that Chelsea Moniz’s one hit for the day — a bases-loaded double that scored three — would have been enough. Analisa Green also drove in four runs on three hits, and Danielle Edwards also drove in three.

West pitcher Kelsea Taylor recorded nine strikeouts and allowed two hits.

West is 3-0 in TCAL (14-3 overall).

Millennium 6, Big Valley Christian 0

The Falcons turned their game around Monday to collect 10 hits on the road against Big Valley Christian in Modesto.

“It was probably the most complete effort (of the season) so far,” said coach Ray Eakin, adding that his team ran the bases well and made only one error in the field. “This is definitely something they want to build on.”

After the Lions’ leadoff batter hit a double, Millennium pitcher Mary Sue Savage allowed only one more hit and struck out nine batters over seven innings.

At the plate, Jaelyn Woods had one hit, a double, and drove in two runs. Nicole Ochoa also hit a double and drove in one, as did Kelsea Eakin.

The Falcons’ first Harvest Christian League win puts them at 1-2 (5-4 overall).

(F) Tracy 6, Ripon 2

It took until the fifth inning for the Bullpuppies to pull this one together Monday at the Tracy Sports Complex. Ripon started with the lead, and coach Keith Britt said he had to remind his team to focus on the mental part of their game.

Tracy scored on hits by Alex Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 and hit a double; Alex Norman, who went 3-for-3; and Taylor Martinez. Martinez pitched all seven innings and struck out 11 Ripon batters.

Tracy is now 16-2-1.
