Tracy and West both won their tennis matches this week to advance in league play. The local schools will face off against each other at West High Friday for a scrimmage match that will take on a playoff format, with six singles matches and three doubles matches.
Tracy’s tennis players picked up another win as they beat the Franklin Yellowjackets in five matches Thursday at Tracy High, putting the Bulldogs at 7-1 in the San Joaquin Athletic Association and 7-2 overall.
In the singles, In the doubles, Chris Pope and Niraj Punjya beat D. Hernandez and B. Yang, 6-0, 6-0, and Brian Kelly and Kevin Camacho beat D. Allen and D. Romero, 6-3, 6-3.
West 5, McNair 0 West High’s tennis team continued its winning streak Wednesday as the McNair High Eagles came to West High for Tri-City Athletic League competition. West swept McNair in both singles and doubles and is 7-0 in TCAL and 8-2 overall. Daniel de la Cruz played in the No. 1 singles spot to defeat McNair’s My Yann, 6-0, 6-4. West’s Parker Lewis beat Sam Wolfe, 6-0, 6-3, and Jay Modi beat McNair’s Tony Nguyen, 6-1, 6-0. In the doubles, David Chen and Gilbert Munoz beat Daniel Hobby and Ivan Guzman, 6-0, 6-3, and freshman Noel Antonio and sophomore D.J. Coleto beat McNair juniors D.J. Montgomery and Cody Wells, 6-1, 6-2.
