Stellar pitching and clutch hitting power the West softball team over the Vikings.
The West High softball team played solid defense Thursday at
The batting combination of Arianna Welch and Elida Rubio came through twice to score for West (2-0 Tri-City Athletic League, 10-9 overall). In the first inning, Welch singled, moved forward on Gina West’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Rubio hit a double. Welch hit a triple in the sixth and came home on Rubio’s sacrifice fly.
Brittaney Enterline pitched seven innings and gave up two
walks and three hits, and coach Steve Anastasio said she kept the “We didn’t make any mistakes, and that’s the key to winning,” Anastasio said.
(S) West 8, West pitcher Andi Anderson kept the Vikings to two hits in seven innings Thursday at Edison High.
“She’s just rolling. She’s in command of all her pitches,”
coach Martin Miller said. The offense did more than its share with 14 hits, including an inside-the-park solo home run that Analisa Green hit down the left field line in the fifth inning. Tracy Wentz and Anderson both went 3-for-4 on Thursday.

The freshman team had a wild game in There were lots of hits on both sides, but the defenses kept most of those runners from moving around. Alison Noble pitched all seven innings for West and was one of her team’s lead hitters with two doubles. Paulina Reynoso and Alexis Phillips each got three hits and scored twice. West’s record is now 2-4-1.
