The results and final finishes of the locally hosted NorCal Classic tournament.

The West High sophomore girls won three and tied one to finish the NorCal Classic softball tournament in third place. The Tracy High varsity softball team went 2-for-4, and West’s varsity wound up 1-for-4 in the tournament, which concluded Saturday at the Tracy Sports Complex, West High and Northgate Park in Manteca.

The Lancers from East Union High in Manteca won the tournament’s top prize Saturday afternoon when they beat Oak Ridge High, 4-2, in the platinum bracket. The Bear River Bruins, who beat West in their first game of the tournament, ended up in third place after beating St. Mary’s.

Franklin of Elk Grove won the gold bracket after beating Ceres, 12-3, and McClatchy beat Pitman, 1-0, to win the silver bracket championship. Galt won the junior varsity bracket as it beat Sonora, 12-0, and the West sophomore team took third place after beating Sierra, 5-3.

St. Francis 4, Tracy 3

The last game in the consolation bracket for the Lady Bulldogs was a tough battle through the seventh inning and into one extra inning, when St. Francis scored two to take the lead and Tracy came up with only one run in the bottom of the eighth.

"We hit the ball well, but we didn’t get hits with runners in scoring position, and that hurt us," coach Greg Smith said.

Nikki Moreno went 3-for-4, and Sara Amorello and Samantha Fisher both went 2-for-2. Morgan Hayes’ one hit for the game was a double.

Smith said the tournament was a good way to prepare for San Joaquin Athletic Association play, which begins next week.

"I feel we competed well," he said. "We played good teams."

Orestimba 9, West 8

The Wolf Pack played a close game in their final matchup Saturday and went into the seventh inning with the score tied 4-4. West got fired up in the top of the ninth inning with four runs, and in the bottom of the ninth, Orestimba came back and scored five to claim the win.

West got its key hits from Elida Rubio, who went 4-for-5, including two doubles and a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Cherie DeJesus, who went 2-for-4, including a two-run home run in the fourth.

Tracy 1, Buhach Colony 0

Tracy pitcher Hayes kept Buhach Colony to two hits and a walk and threw nine strikeouts, including three in a row in the fifth inning in Tracy’s first game Saturday. Buhach’s pitcher was also allowed few hittable pitches, limiting Tracy to two base hits.

Tracy scored in the sixth inning when Nikki Moreno and Stephanie Leles both walked, advanced on a sacrifice by Sara Amorello and then scored when Samantha Fisher got on base through an infield error.

Oakdale 5, West 1

Gina West started her Wolf Pack team off with a single in the first inning and Caitlyn Girard drove her home with a double, but it was the only run the Pack would score. Oakdale scored on a series of Wolf Pack errors in the fourth inning and kept the lead.

Girard went 3-for-3, and Jamie Costa hit a double in the seventh inning.

(S) West 5, Sierra 3

West and Sierra kept the game scoreless on both sides through seven innings Friday in their last game of the NorCal Classic’s sophomore bracket. The game put West in third place for the bracket and gives them an 11-3-1 record for the season.

Andi Andersen pitched all nine innings and struck out 12 Sierra batters in a game West coach Martin Miller described as one of the best contests for his team so far this year.

"In the ninth, our girls really put it together," he said.

Kelsea Taylor hit a triple and batted in three runs, and Anderson went 3-for-4.

(S) West 2, Enochs 2

The Wolf Pack started off in the lead in their third game and kept the Enochs team scoreless until the seventh inning, when the Eagles scored two to tie the game. Madison Hargraves pitched for West, and Andersen finished the game in the seventh inning to get the last out. West’s Megan Anastasio hit a double, and Danielle Edwards and Lindsey Jorgensen also got base hits.

(S) West 4, Los Banos 1

Taylor and Nicole Ricobono got the big hits in the Wolf Pack’s second game Friday, Taylor going 3-for-3 with a triple and Ricobono going 2-for-5 with a double. Andersen pitched six innings and struck out eight.

(S) West 7, Manteca 2

Taylor hit a triple and batted in three runs in the first game of the tournament Friday at Northgate Park in Manteca. Ricobono and Hargraves each got two hits, and Hargraves also pitched all five innings and struck out seven.
