A winning streak today set up the JV Wolf Pack for Saturday's challenge at the Freedom High tournament.
West High’s tennis team won 18 out of 20 games Friday at the Freedom High School junior varsity tournament in Antioch.
That put the Wolf Pack in today’s semifinal bracket, where West will face the team from Piedmont High this morning. The winner of that match will play either San Ramon Valley High or Freedom High’s A team.
West coach Micheal Quintana said West won in the first round against Freedom High’s B team, 5-0; in the second round against Heritage High’s A team, 4-1; in the third against Deer Valley High, 5-0; and in the fourth against Heritage High’s B team, 4-1. Quintana said the team’s standout players included Daniel de la Cruz, who won four matches (8-1, 8-1, 8-2, 8-3) and Serggio Antonio, who played in four doubles matches, which West won (8-5, 8-0, 8-1 8-2). Antonio played the first match with his brother Noel, the second and third with Jerome Oribello and the fourth with Emanual Munoz. Baljit Singh also stood out in two matches, which he won 8-2 and 8-4.
