Ron Ruiz tests the winds as he prepares to launch a kite into the cloudy skies above Plasencia Fields this afternoon. Ruiz was out flying kites with his 5-year-old grandson, Joey Chavez, as they took advantage of cool temperatures and light winds. Ruiz has been flying kits since he was young, and today his grandson gothis first flying lesson.

Kites?! I love kites! I have 5 kites that I adore flying. Two are planes and they are very difficult to keep up. Half the time they crash and burn, so I just change the kite. Kite flying should not be considered a child's game. Depending on the wind, thinking and proper movements are needed to keep the kite flying. It is a good workout and I consider it therapy as well!!! I started flying my kites almost 2 months ago. I love my butterfly.
