Quick hits:
• Glimmer of hope: Wall Street rallied over a national home sales report that more homes have changed hands in February than in January, even though experts cautioned that the beleaguered real estate market is far from reaching its bottom.
• Bad news/good news: While motorists fume over the skyrocketing cost of gasoline, state officials say the extra sales tax revenue from high prices at the pump is proving to be a boon as California faces an $8 billion dollar deficit.
• Legislature gone to the dogs? A state Assembly “Take Your Dog to Work Day” resolution urges employers to honor canines on June 20 in the same way they set aside a day each year for employees to take their children to their job sites.
Numbers: • 19: Number of people (mostly in SoCal) charged with defrauding homeowners in trouble, partly by using “foreclosure rescue pitches” and an equity-draining technique called “equity stripping.”
