The SJAA season started well for the Bulldogs, but a strong performance wasn't enough to topple the Trojans.

The Lincoln High track and field team swept Tracy during the schools’ first San Joaquin Athletic Association meet Thursday at Lincoln High in Stockton.

Tracy coach Jay Fishburn said the freshman/sophomore boys were the most competitive team for Tracy, finishing with 55 team points to Lincoln’s 80. Fishburn said some team members have found where they will excel, but he’s still sorting out who will compete in each event.

"We really did well but don’t have the depth we need to get people in every single race," he said. He added that Lincoln is always a tough opponent, so the meet was still a good start to the season.

"It shows us where we’re at and where we need to move kids around. The work ethic is there with this team."

Among the sophomores, the Tracy team dominated the field events. Chris Petro placed first and Mario Arnaudo was second in the pole vault, Kevin Speer placed first in the discus, A.J. Damo was first in the shot put and Elijah Mitchell was first in the high jump.

In the track events, Anthony Willis took first in the 100-meter dash, Johnny Bailey was first in the 400 meters and Ryan Little won the race and placed third in the mile.

Lincoln outscored the Tracy varsity boys 95-34, and again the Tracy team collected most of its points in the field events. Kenny Mix took first in the triple jump and second in the long jump. Steven Perreira was first in the shot put, and Scott Adams was third in the shot put and discus. In the pole vault, Billy Simon came in second and Chris Gutierrez was first.

In the track events, Dupre Celestine took second in the 100-meter and 200-meter runs, and Tracy had the first-place 4x400 relay team with Chris Paschal, Jake Yerian, Timmy Celestine and Jamaris Knighton.

Scores were not available for the girls teams, but Fishburn said both the freshman/sophomore and varsity teams placed in only a few events.

Marlene MacMillan took first in the high jump for the varsity, Nicole Loscavio was first in the pole vault and Alison Emery was third in the discus. Kaitlin McLean took third in the 200 meters.

For the freshman/sophomore team, Janessa Souza tied for first place in the pole vault. Summer Adams took second in the discus and third in the shot put.
