A Tracy girl takes second place in state free-throw competition. Isabella Lawrence, a fifth-grader at St. Bernard’s Catholic School, took second place in the Knights of Columbus state basketball free-throw championship on March 15 at San Joaquin Memorial High in Fresno. Her father, West High P.E. instructor Joe Lawrence, said Isabella competed in city, area and regional events to become one of 15 girls representing Northern California in the 10-and-under division at the state event. She and another contestant from Walnut Creek made 21 of 25 shots, and Isabella made three of five in a tiebreaker round, while the first-place finisher made four. Competing alongside her was Julia Jurado, also a St. Bernard’s student, who finished eighth in the 11-and-under division.
