The Millennium High baseball team suffers a 17-0 setback on Monday. The Millennium High School baseball team took a loss Monday at Millennium High as the visiting Bear Creek Bruins prevailed, 17-0. Assistant coach Drew Reyes said the Falcons went into the game knowing that they would have a tough match against the Bruins, who play in the Division I San Joaquin Athletic Association. The loss puts the Falcons at 4-4. "Despite the score, we could take a lot of positives from the game," Reyes said. He said the Bruins scored big in the second and fourth innings and took advantage of the Falcons’ fielding errors. But the Falcons also played a good defensive game in the third inning, in which sophomore pitcher Mark LaRue and the defense put out three batters in a row. "Our pitchers held the runners real well," Reyes said, adding that sophomore Brandon Haynes also pitched. Reyes said the team executed two pickoffs and caught a base runner trying to steal third. "We feel like it’s been a real progression through the season," he added. Bear Creek pitchers held the Falcons to two hits during the game and logged nine strikeouts against in five innings. Jake Vierra hit a long shot into center field, but the Bear Creek outfielder got the ball back quickly and held Vierra to a single. Jonathan Beringer also got on base via an infield single.
