Tracy High tennis beat Lodi
4-1 today, as West High topped Edison 5-0.
The Tracy and West tennis teams both won their matches at
home today as
they continued league play.
West is 2-0 in the Tri-City Athletic League, 3-2 overall,
after its 5-0 win against Edison. A 4-1 win
against Lodi leaves Tracy undefeated, 4-0, in the San Joaquin
Athletic Association, with a 4-1 overall record.

The typical format for high school play is three singles
matches and two doubles matches. With 19 players on the West team and 20 for Edison, the teams tried out a 6-4 format, though for
league play purposes, they recorded only the top three singles and top two
doubles matches.
In singles, West senior Brett Spadoni won his match against Edison’s Ger Xing, 6-0, 6-3. Teammate Kevin Canoy beat
Ankit Kumar, 6-4, 6-1, and Jay Modi beat Edison’s
Arturo Martinez, 6-1, 6-1.

beat Edison’s Mao Her and Chimua Yang, 6-4,
6-1. West’s Jerome Oribello and Luke Creasman also beat John Xiang and Gustavo

Tracy 4, Lodi 1
The Bulldogs tennis team remains undefeated after facing
four of its five SJAA opponents, and coach Dean Reese said Thursday’s match
provided some of the team’s best competition so far.
“Lodi
is definitely one of the stronger teams in the league,” Reese said. “It was a
closer match than what the score says.”
In singles, Tracy’s Neil
Thackor beat Lodi’s Jon Sharp, 7-6, 6-1; Quinn
O’Brien of Tracy beat Harrison Prewitt, 6-4,
6-0; and John Trinidad beat Lodi’s
Matt Machado 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, Lodi’s M. Weybret
and M. Whitlock beat Tracy’s Miguel Gonzales and Niraj Punjya, 6-1, 6-4, and Tracy’s Cameron Mercurio
and Chris Pope beat J. Figone and A. Tomaso, 6-2, 6-3.
