Scornaienchi, Bulldogs go on home-run streak in win at Stagg

Tracy High baseball fans who wanted to see a replay of Tuesday’s game-winning home run didn’t have to wait long.

Ryan Scornaienchi’s two-run shot against Golden Valley was just a warm up. In his next at-bat on the road against Stagg High in Stockton today, the Tracy left fielder blasted another long ball, with shortstop Stevie Ramos on base, just like on Tuesday. It was the start of the Bulldogs’ 11-0 win.

On his next appearance at the plate, Scornaienchi hit another out of the park for three home runs in three consecutive at-bats.

Bulldogs coach Vic Alkire said it was enough to inspire Ramos and first baseman Vince Canale, who also hit home runs today. In all, Scornaienchi went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Ramos went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Canale went 1-for-2 with his solo homer and catcher Kyle Hassna went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Tracy pitchers Bret Maddox and Chris Burgess held Stagg to one hit. Maddox pitched the first four of five innings, struck out five, and the Tracy defense took care of the rest of Stagg’s batters.

“He had pretty good control and made them put the ball in play,” Alkire said.

The win puts Tracy at 8-1 for the season as the Bulldogs head to Pacific Grove on Saturday.

Tracy faced some tough pitching from Stagg’s Jim Cornelson, but with the score tied at 1-1 and two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Tracy’s Robbie Jackman hit a triple with Kyle Perez on base to put Tracy in the lead.

Relief pitcher Ricky Diaz, who took over for starter Jake Finney with one out in the third inning, kept the Stagg Delta Kings hitless for the rest of the game with nine strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

The win gives Tracy a 10-0 overall record.
