Freshman Alexis Poppoff scored three goals in Tracy’s 3-1 win against Lodi today at Plasencia Fields. Coach Joe Perry said that puts her at nine goals for the San Joaquin Athletic League season, which makes it a hat trick for each of the Bulldogs three league games.

He added that this type of scoring will get the other teams’ attention.

“They’ll be doubling up on her pretty soon,” he said.

Poppoff scored in the fifth minute with an assist from Katelyn Golik, again unassisted in the 26th minute and in the 60th with an assist from Megan Glasere.

Perry added that the first home game of league play was a good measure of how the team could fare this year. Tracy started with tough tournament play, but Lodi was the first SJAA team that will provide tough competition this year. He said that Lincoln High also will likely have a strong squad.

Tracy is now 3-0 in league play and 3-2-1 overall.

The Tracy junior varsity girls built on their success today to extend their SJAA record to 3-0 and overall record to 7-0-1.

“We came out and played really aggressive. Our passing was spectacular,” coach Phil Kalis said, adding that Lodi is one of the teams Tracy will have to beat consistently to do well in league play.

“It’s pretty encouraging to see us come out and play a tough opponent,” Kalis said.

Melissa Aboud scored two goals and Danielle Stepanoff and Kelly Vink each scored as well. Vink was credited with an assist and Lauren Brown had two assists.
