A walk-off home run by Ryan Scornaienchi made up for a spate of errors and sent the Tracy High baseball team home winners on Tuesday.
The Tracy baseball team’s Tuesday game might have gone to the Golden Valley Cougars of Merced if not for Ryan Scornaienchi’s two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. With Stevie Ramos on base and one, out it was enough to end the game as a 3-2 win for Tracy. It puts the Bulldogs at 7-1 for the season. The Cougars were ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning after Golden Valley scored in the second on a wild pitch and again in the fourth when Cougar catcher Alex Fletcher drove in Stefan Arnsberg, who got on base on an infield error. "We’re going to be in those situations where we don’t play 100 percent," Scornaienchi said. "But the fact that we can come back and win boosts our confidence." Ramos, who went 3-for-4 Tuesday, including a line-drive single to left field to lead off the bottom of the seventh, said he was confident the Bulldogs could turn the game around after he got to second on a failed pickoff attempt. That’s when he saw Scornaienchi at the plate. "I was thinking that I was in a good spot, because that’s who we want at the plate when that situation comes up."

Glenn Moore/Tracy Press Scornaienchi liked the look of the low-middle fastball he saw in a 1-0 count and sent it sailing over the right-field fence. "I just relaxed and turned on it," he said. Tracy coach Vic Alkire said his team was fortunate to have the opportunity to take back the game. Tracy had runners on base in every inning but stranded eight while scoring only one run in the fifth. Starting pitcher Daniel Heefner limited the Cougars to three hits in six innings. Five infielder errors allowed Golden Valley runners to get on base in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. "Daniel Heefner kept us in the game," Alkire said. "Normally against a team like Golden Valley you cannot make five errors and stay in the game." (S) Tracy 13, Golden Valley 1 Two doubles by Tracy’s Robert Emerson and a triple by Jonathon Combs led the Bullpups to a big win over the Cougars. The win puts Tracy at 9-0 for the season. Emerson went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Combs was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Robbie Jackman pitched five innings and gave up two hits while striking out seven. (F) Tracy 7, Downey 3 The Tracy freshmen were behind 3-0 going into the fourth inning when the Bullpuppies’ batters came alive. Aaron Walker got a base hit, followed by one of Jacob Wilson’s two doubles for the day. Dominic De Souza followed with a two-RBI single. Tracy rallied again in the sixth, getting another double from Wilson and two RBIs each from Tyler San Filippo and Andy Levand.
