Saturday is opening day for the Tracy Express softball league and hundreds of young players. Several hundred Tracy girls will take to the diamond Saturday when the Tracy Express softball league hosts its opening-day ceremonies at Williams Middle School, 1600 Tennis Lane. The event will begin at 8 a.m., when the parade of 475 players and 35 teams will arrive at the field. League president Phil Torretto and vice president Alicia Honnoll will introduce the adult volunteers who organize the league. The national anthem and ceremonial first pitch by former league president Dean Erickson will follow, and games will begin at 9 a.m. The season runs through early May and will include games on all five fields at Williams Middle School. Games will be played all day each Saturday and will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Honnoll said that in addition to the regular recreation leagues, which go from T-ball to 14-and-under teams, Tracy Express organizes the Titans travel teams, which participate in tournaments around the region in 10-and-under through 18-and-under play.
