Gymnast takes first in state competition Print E-mail

A local boy qualified last weekend to join the Northern California All-Star gymnastics team.

Justin Woo of Tracy took first place in the pommel horse event at the Northern California Boys Gymnastics Association’s state championship meet in Stockton on Sunday.

Justin competes in the Level 9, 12- through 13-year-old age group. His winning score on the pommel horse was 12.65. He also scored a 12.35 on the rings for second place, 13.3 on the parallel bars for second place, 13.425 on the vault for fourth place, and 11.75 on the high bar for fifth place.

His all-around score of 76.325 placed him third in his division and qualified him for the Northern California All-Star team, which will compete regionally in April.

Justin’s team, West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy of Pleasanton, earned the second-place team award.

Justin previously brought home awards from the Pacific Coast Classic in Oakland on Feb. 22 through 24, where he took third place on the rings with a score of 12.45, fifth on the parallel bars with a score of 12.7 and sixth on the pommel horse with a score of 11.8.
