A big inning brings down the Millennium baseball team, but the softball squad rallies on their starting pitcher's perfect game. The Mountain Oaks Eagles jumped on an opportunity for a 10-run third inning on their way to a 17-11 win against the Millennium Falcons in San Andreas on Friday. Millennium had a 6-3 lead going into the third, but assistant coach Drew Reyes said that the Falcons’ pitchers, including some boys who just joined the team this week, still need to work on controlling the ball. Mountain Oaks got nine hits, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning, but got most of their runners on base through walks and three of their runs in the third on walks. "We just got into a jam that we couldn’t get out of," Reyes said. "Mountain Oaks really swung the bat, and we made a lot of mistakes and didn’t help ourselves." The Falcons started to make a comeback in the fifth inning, but the game was called because of darkness. The Falcons’ leading scorers included Jonny Rojas, who hit a double and had four RBIs; Jeremy McKague, who had a double and two RBIs; and Chris Ybarra-Martinez, whose double started the Falcons’ rally in the fifth. The Falcons play next on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at home when they’ll host a tournament in honor of late coach Augie Vierra. Teams from Mountain Oaks High, Tioga High in Groveland and Venture Academy of Stockton will all play. Reyes said he expects a crowd to come out Wednesday for the first home game of the year, which was a big event at the charter school last year. "It’s pretty good to see all the kids lined up on the baseline to support the team," he said. Savage start keys softball victory Mary Sue Savage threw a perfect game for the Millennium Falcons’ 10-0 win at Mountain Oaks High in San Andreas on Friday. "It was a very good defensive job," coach Ray Eakin said, adding that Savage had two strikeouts and help from Millennium fielders to keep the Eagle hitless. The Falcons scored early, and Millennium batters had a big fifth inning where they scored five runs. Umpires ended the game on the 10-run rule after that. Savage and Brianna Murawski were the Falcons’ big hitters, both going 3-for-4 at the plate, Murawski with a triple. The Tracy Press encourages a free and open exchange of ideas and information.
