The Tempest II live up to their name by winning two games two weekends ago. The Tempest II soccer team played two games at Plasencia Fields on Feb. 16 and 17, claiming a 4-1 victory Saturday against Stockton 3 and a 4-0 win Sunday against Modesto 2. Jordan Poppoff opened the scoring in the 13th minute of Saturday’s match, and Daisy Diaz scored again two minutes later. Kristy Fojo scored in the 31st minute, and Sarah Ballard opened the second half with a score in the 48th minute. Tori Dedeaux and Jasmin Fonseca kept Stockton in check by putting pressure on the Stockton defense. On Sunday, Merissa Dander broke the back-and-forth game in the 23rd minute with a goal from the left. After being denied on a breakaway, Brittany Branscomb scored on a penalty kick after a foul in the box in the 40th minute. Poppoff scored two more in the 44th and 46th minutes. Laurel Lewis, Brittany Bennett and Mariana Diaz played strong defense, and Nancy Tristan and Ballard shared goalkeeper duties. The Tempest’s record is 6-0-0, including five shutouts.
