The Tracy High girls basketball team bounced
Facing Downey in the second-to-last of eight games Wednesday night at West High, the Bulldogs pushed through what head coach Mike Granillo Jr. called a sluggish start — they were “only” up by eight after the first quarter — to post a 64-30 victory. “The start of the first quarter, after the holiday, they came out a little sluggish — they come out slow until they get their adrenaline going,” he said. “We came out and pressured the ball and played some good defense the second half.” Scoring came from up and down the bench, as every Bulldog saw time on the floor and all but one scored. Megan Machado, Nicole Parks-Powell and Tontane Gilbert paced the team with 10 points each, and Machado added six assists while Parks-Powell snared eight rebounds. “We had some pretty balanced scoring, so that was a nice part about it, that everybody got to play,” Granillo said.
The victory puts “By the time we get done with this tournament we hope to have the chemistry ready to start league — that’s what we’re looking for.” The Bulldogs face Foothill at 6 p.m. Thursday in the second round as the tune-up continues.
