Wolf Pack, Bulldogs net victories.

West 58, Turlock 46

The West High girls basketball team improved to 8-2 on the year with a 58-46 win over Pitman in Turlock on Wednesday — and the Wolf Pack kept a double-double streak alive, too.

Senior guard/forward Whitney Howard made it seven in a row with double figures in points and rebounds —  11 and 14, respectively — but it was Eliza Bowles who led all scorers with a season-high 17 points, and Bowles added 12 rebounds for her own double-double. She also recorded four steals.

Angelina Drummer, Devin Brown and Kristine Jurgens all hit 10 points for the Wolf Pack, and Brown dished out eight assists. Drummer had four points and added two steals in what was possibly West’s most balanced offensive effort of the young season.

“This was a game where we played very well throughout the game,” West coach Joe Lawrence said. “I’m happy how we finished before our Christmas break.”

West led by 19 at the half and by 26 entering the final quarter.

The Wolf Pack are off until Dec. 26, when they’ll open the Tom Hawkins/Tracy Breakfast Lions Tournament against Waldorf at 7:30 p.m.

(S) Pitman 45, West 32

Charae McConnell’s eight points and six from Jackey Jallorina could not turn the tide for West.
Lauren Fass and Liu Dellafosse both scored five points, and Brianna Smith added four.
Paul and McConnell both had six rebounds. Brianna Smith was good for six steals.

Their next game is Dec. 27 in the Sierra Tournament.

(F) West 37, Pitman 17

Lesley Baires led the way with 11 points for West (7-2).

Analise Green added eight, and Danielle Grimes put in six.

Green had 13 rebounds, and Kelsea Taylor had six. Brianna Estrada had four steals.

The Sierra Tournament will be the Wolf Pack’s next experience.

Tracy 48, Stagg 46

The Bulldogs led by as many as seven late in the game Wednesday in Stockton thanks to two free throws from leading scorer Jordan Averiett and withstood a late Delta Queen rally to hang onto the win.

Averiett’s 15 points led Tracy (7-4), which also saw 11 points from junior Marlene MacMillan and eight from guard Cezzalene Arabia.

Up by five with one minute, 15 seconds left in the game, Averiett stepped to the free-throw line for Tracy after a Stagg technical foul, as the Delta Queens (7-4) called timeout with no timeouts left. The resulting shots extended the Bulldogs’ lead and provided the final margin of victory.
Stagg led by seven at halftime, taking advantage of Tracy mistakes and turnovers, but those flaws were rectified, Tracy coach Mike Granillo Jr. said.

“They jumped on us right away — in the second quarter, they jumped on us,” he said. “We had a few turnovers, but we came back and had a good third quarter. We were controlling the ball and attacking the bucket. That solved our problems.”

Tracy’s next tipoff is Dec. 26 against Downey in the Tom Hawkins/Tracy Breakfast Lions Tournament. Game time is at 6 p.m. at West High.

(S) Tracy 54, Stagg 21

Vanessa Gabriel’s 15 points and 14 from Sahar Osmani paved the way Wednesday for Tracy (4-3).

Ashlee Vinyard scored five, and Christyann Sherohman added four. Lindsey Phelps scored eight points.

(F) Stagg 31, Tracy 23

Brianna Aldridge and Catherine Gibson scored six points each for Tracy (4-6) in freshman action. Taylor Bobbitt added three.

Next is the Sierra Tournament. But first is Christmas.

Boys basketball

(S) West 80, Beyer 61

Eric Green had 30 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Kevin Santos had 14 points, and Patrick Phillips added 11.

Tra’vaughn Soriano scored eight points for West (6-4), which will receive a late Christmas present next week — they get to play in the Manteca Tournament at Manteca High. The games begin Thursday.

(F) West 59, Beyer 42

William Kaigler scored 14 points, and Jarrard Miles added 10.

Andrew Henderson scored nine points and added eight rebounds. Rami Booth had eight rebounds and seven points. Stephen Grady had five rebounds and eight points.

Wrestling

Lincoln 39, West 32
