Bulldogs enter holiday classic on two-game tear.
The Tracy High boys basketball team enters its annual holiday tournament today on a two-game win streak, courtesy of a one-point win on the road against Livermore on Monday, 64-63. The win on the other side of Altamont Pass came on the heels of a one-point escape last week at Swenson Gym over McNair. Senior shooting guard and team top shooter Nate Brown put in 14. But he was matched by junior forward Cameron McMorris-Jackson’s 14 and 11 more from Matt Johnson — and that, Tracy coach Paul Demsher said, was the difference for the Bulldogs (3-6 preseason). “We’ve had two close games in a row, but we’re getting other guys involved,” Demsher said. “More of a balanced team made a big difference.” Tracy led most of the second half after entering the locker room with a two-point deficit. The Cowboys (1-6) trailed by as many as nine before cutting the lead to four in the final minute. Livermore hit a 3-pointer with six seconds to go, but Tracy inbounded the ball and preserved the win. Today’s tournament opener is against Los Banos. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. at Swenson Gym. (S) Tracy 53, Livermore 40 The Bullpups improved to 4-5 on the preseason with a double-digit win in Livermore on Monday. Daryl Dancy paved the way with 18 points, and Mychael James added 16. Jake Finney scored 12 for the Bullpups, who led by a point at the half before a 22-point fourth quarter put the hosts away. Next up is the Manteca Tournament beginning Dec. 27. Girls basketball Monterey Trail 59, West 54 The Wolf Pack’s five-game win streak came to a halt Monday in Elk Grove, as the host Mustangs (4-4 preseason) held the Wolf Pack (7-2) to eight points in the first quarter and 26 in the second half. Senior guard/forward Whitney Howard pushed her double-double streak to six games, as she scored 25 and pulled down 10 rebounds. Eliza Bowles added 12 points, and Jayme Leftridge scored four points to go with her eight rebounds. The Wolf Pack committed 23 turnovers, and shot 8-for-17 from the free-throw line. Monterey Trail hit 20 of its 32 free throws. “We just didn’t play very well at the end,” West coach Joe Lawrence said. “We need to make sure we come prepared to play every single night.” (S) Monterey Trail 44, West 37 Jackey Jallorina scored 10 points and added eight rebounds for the Wolf Pack (5-3) on Monday. Liu Dellafosse added seven, and Lauren Fass scored six for West, who will face Pitman in Turlock tonight. (F) West 40, Monterey Trail 27 Two points was all the Wolf Pack allowed the hosts in the first quarter, paving the way to a victory. Analisa Green scored 10 points and added 14 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year. Brianna Estrada added 10, and Kelsey Taylor scored seven and hauled in 10 rebounds. Tracy Storm’s Toys for Tots Tournament The Tracy Storm AAU girls basketball team completed its annual Toys for Tots Tournament last weekend at the Tom Hawkins Elementary School. The team raised $1,500 over the two-day affair for the McHenry House Children and collected six barrels of toys for Brighter Christmas. On the court, the Storm’s “A” team took second place, losing to St. Michaels in the championship game, 39-17. Nina Pritchett scored five points and Charese Holloway and Arianna Grimes both added four. To get there, Pritchett had a triple-double in a 55-39 win over Linden, with 30 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Dellafosse added 11 points. Pritchett also scored 13, and Holloway added 10 in a 68-6 win over Greer. Prtichett, Grimes and Nidia Sandoval were all named to the All-Tournament team, and Alex Alegre received the hustle award. The B team went 2-1 in the tournament, losing to the A team. Charese Holloway and Hannah Ramirez were named to the All-Tournament team, and Shelby Devlin received the hustle award.
