The West High wrestling team kicked off its preseason dual schedule with a win at home against the Bruins, thanks in no small part to five pins and three forfeits.
“It was good to get a chance to get out there and work out the kinks and get ready for January,” second-year head coach Ed Carlos said. “That’s when it really starts.”
Pins came courtesy of 135-pound junior Hesham Abdo, 140-pounder Aaron Foote,
145-pounder Jairo Tellez, 160-pound Brandon Oliver, and heavyweight Jeff Collins. Foote, Abdo and Oliver all needed just one round to get their pins.
Josh Avila, Justin Delcampo and senior CIF Sac-Joaquin Section qualifier Alvaro Tellez all won by forfeit.
Taylor Post won 14-4 at 125 pounds, and Kevin Manuel won 17-6 at 152 pounds.
On Saturday, the Wolf Pack will wrestle at the Oakdale Invitational. The host Mustangs have one of the best programs in the state, with two CIF State Championships winners on their roster: Trevor Machado-Ching in the middleweights, and Rudy Burtchi at 215.

The Wolf Pack junior varsity cruised to victory behind “lots of forfeits,” only wrestling five matches against the Bruins.
Junior Sahij Singh threw his man into a pin at the one-minute, 40-second mark of the first round, and Kyle Hunter, at 140s, managed to fight out of a choke in the first round en route to a 9-2 victory.
