Golden Valley 75, Tracy 66

At Merced on Monday, the Bulldogs (0-4 preseason) survived a 10-0 Golden Valley opening run to lead by a point at halftime. But a 29-point third quarter gave the hosts the win.

“Up and down,” Tracy coach Paul Demsher said. “Kind of what you can expect this early.”
Senior guard Nate Brown scored a career-high 31 points, including five 3-pointers and a 4-for-5 day from the free-throw line. Junior forward Austin Jones added 13, and point guard Khrys Lawson, still recovering from a broken wrist, put in six.

Monday was the first time the two teams met since the 2006 Tracy Winter Holiday Classic, when Golden Valley (3-2-1 preseason) staged a second-half comeback to win at West High.
On Thursday, Tracy will travel to Brentwood to play Mount Diablo in the opening game of the Stonebarger Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
