Press file photo Tracy High The Bulldogs missed out on the playoffs in 2007, but two players still made first-team all-league: Senior setter Kaitlin Carey and junior hitter Katie Turner. Turner finished the year with 259 kills, 180 digs and 22 aces, and Carey wrapped up her high school career with 306 assists, 101 digs, 39 kills and 17 blocks. Tracy coach David Daily said he felt Carey was the best setter in the league, and “the only setter in the league who was also an offensive threat,” as evidenced by her kill total. Turner, a junior, “was the player on our team opponents had to account for,” he said, and the Bulldogs’ leader on and off the court. Janae’ Jack, a second-team selection in her junior year, accounted for 99 kills and 106 digs, including a season-high of 17 in a match against Chavez. First-year libero Lindsey Kinakin, also a second-team selection, led the team in digs with 251. Senior Katie Albee “was the heart of the team,” Daily said, and “gave everything she had and left everything on the court.” She also accounted for 21 aces from the service line. West High In the Tri-City Athletic League, it was tough going for the West High Wolf Pack. But if you count tournaments, the young junior-laden team finished the year a game above .500, including wins over such tough teams as Lincoln in the weekend competitions. In their second varsity seasons, juniors Cari Graves, Jayme Leftridge and Tamar Schaap were named to the first, second and honorable mention lists, respectively. All three played different positions throughout the year as West coach Pete Mullen shuffled his lineup. Each played at the back, up front and on the outside, showing versatility as well as talent. “They played very good games for us,” said Mullen, who estimated that Graves averaged in double-digits for kills throughout the year. “They played for us where they were needed — and they were all really good servers, too.” Graves also recovered from a dislocated kneecap she suffered during the summer to make the all-league roster. All three will play club volleyball in the offseason to prepare for their senior years. Millennium High The Falcons made the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs in their first season of Harvest Christian League play. Freshman setter Michelle Laban was the team’s lone first-team all-league selection, with 105 service aces on the year, a league high. She also had 35 kills in 44 attempts, 173 assists, 77 digs and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Abigael Medina had 44 service aces, 48 kills and 64 digs.
