Three Tracy teams head to Super Bowl.

The Tracy Cougars Novice team will play in the first Super Bowl in the history of the organization against the undefeated Stockton Bengals on Saturday.

The Cougars, just five years old, had never even recorded a playoff win until this year, but defeated the crosstown rival Tracy Raiders two weekends ago in the South Delta Conference Championship game en route to their Super Bowl game this weekend. The Cougars went 10-2 this season, avenging an earlier loss to the Raiders in the regular season.

“It’s going to be a good game,” Cougars head coach Rob Miller said. “They (Stockton) are a very good team. I think they average 40ish points a game. This is the type of game that’s going to go down to the last possession. I’m excited.”

Tracy Raiders

The Tracy Raiders face off with the Stockton Trojans in the junior varsity Raiders’ first trip to the Super Bowl since 2004, where they fell to the Stockton Vikings in head coach Freddy James II’s first year at the helm.

The Raiders recorded a 10-2 record this year, defeating the Tracy Cougars for the South Conference championship, and will play for a Delta Youth Football League title this Saturday at Lincoln High.

“I know that the coaching staff is extremely proud of the accomplishments and the success the kids achieved this year,” James said. “I’m looking forward to playing the Trojans, it’s going to be a good game. I’m looking forward to going out and playing a good, hard, clean game on Saturday.”

Tracy Buccaneers

The Tracy Buccaneers will play the 12-1 Brentwood Patriots for the National Youth Football League championship Saturday at Modesto Christian High School.

The Bucs will head to the title game for the first time since head coach Dennis Alegre moved from the varsity team to become head coach for the rookies in 2004 — although this team has many faces from last year’s Novice Super Bowl championship team.

“My team will come out and do a good job,” Alegre said. “We hit like the older teams. I ran this same offense with the older kids, and they handle it just fine. We haven’t played them (Brentwood) at all this year, so it’ll be all new.”
