Bucs don’t stop at Super Bowl

The Tracy Buccaneers youth football organization made it two in a row Saturday in Modesto, claiming the 2007 Rookies-level National Youth Football League section title with a 19-6 win over the Modesto Titans.

The Buccaneers Starts team, made up of many players now on the Rookies, claimed the same title a year ago.

Luke Pulliam led the offense with 124 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, piercing a Modesto defense that had held Tracy scoreless in the season’s first game. Justin Mills also got in on the revenge act, rumbling seven times for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Isaiah Floyd ran the ball five times for 21 yards and a score behind blocking courtesy of Omar Corral, Chandlyr Metal, Marcus Faasisila, Clayton Borges and Daryn Higaki.

The Titans offense was held to a single score through eight tackles each by Jonathan Maroulas and Myles Cunningham, and six tackles from Mills and Brandon Russell. Jake Alvarado, Karsten Lee and Isaiah Floyd all had five tackles.

Floyd also picked off a pass to halt a Modesto drive.

On Saturday, the Tri-Valley Conference and San-Stan Section champion Buccaneers will play the Delta River Conference and Sac-Joaquin Section champion Brentwood Patriots for the state title. Game time is 3 p.m. at Modesto Christian High.

All four levels of Buccaneer cheerleaders will also compete for titles, trophies and championships. The cheerleading begins at 10:30 a.m. The Rookies and Varsity cheerleaders won their cheer competition earlier in the year.
