The three-time Tri-City Athletic League champion wrapped up her Wolf Pack career in Fresno on Saturday at the California Interscholastic Federation’s state cross country championships. She finished in 65th place overall, sixth among runners from the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, in 19 minutes, eight seconds. She ran a 20:11 in her first go in the state meet a year ago. She’ll race again today on the same course in a Junior Olympic qualifier, and she’ll run in a similar event in Kansas before the New Year. Rico’s senior season saw her sweep all of her league meets and place in the top five at invitationals in Palo Alto, Modesto and Hayward. This spring, she'll chase a spot in the CIF State Track and Field Championships in the 1600 meters. She was alternate in 2007, after running a 5:07.06 at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet in late May.
