Eleven local players named to high school All-League teams.
The West High boys soccer team didn’t quite make it back to where it was a year ago — the 2006 Wolf Pack were CIF Sac-Joaquin Section finalists — but they came close, winning another Tri-City Athletic League title and knocking San Joaquin Athletic Association champion Lincoln out of the playoffs in the first round.

The Tracy High boys soccer team missed the postseason for a second straight year, but they certainly improved on 2006, setting probable school records for shutouts and consecutive shutout minutes en route to coming within a hair of making the postseason.

If you combined the two schools, you’d have a pretty good team. And if you fielded a side with the eleven local players selected to their respective All-League teams — why, you’d have a very good team.

Four players from Tracy and seven from West made it onto the 2007 All-League lists, and West goalie Jesus Parcoua was named the 2007 Tri-City Athletic League goalie of the year, his third year on the postseason honor list.

Teammate Sean Divoky, from midfield, was named to his third All-League team. Junior Omar Valverde was named to his second All-League team.

Valverde scored three goals and added four assists in 10 league games. Waleed Fazyi was the TCAL’s leading scorer with eight goals and three assists in 10 games. The Houseyni brothers, Bilal and Reshad, helped anchor the defense and midfield, and Peter Wardell was an anchor at the back as well. With their help, head coach Joe Perry’s Wolf Pack went 6-1-3 in TCAL play for a second-straight league title.

The Bulldogs went 10-4-1 a year after a mediocre season, and played for a playoff spot on the season’s final day. Senior Rodrigo Anaya scored 11 goals, a team-high, including some with acrobatic bicycle kicks and other finery.

Defender Jesus Lopez was a factor in Tracy’s eight straight shutouts. Third-year starter Alex Alvarez, a junior, added two goals and eight assists in league play, and Ryan Jakes played both midfielder and forward, scoring four goals and adding seven assists. Jakes was also a pleasure to coach, Tracy coach Phil Kalis once said.
