Other Tracy singers made trek to San Diego.
Tracy has more than just a few Idol hopefuls.
Several singers made the trek to Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on Tuesday for a chance to step into the American Idol limelight.
Jaron Liclican, 16, is one of the lucky few to make it to the second round. He will go on to sing in front of celebrity American Idol judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. The three judges were absent from the San Diego audition, but 23 show producers awarded between 300 and 500 golden tickets to singers selected for the second round.
Jaron won the Star Quest singing competition at the Day in the Park last month. Star Quest judges voted him No. 1, and the public voted him No. 2 in the Tracy Performing Arts Foundation competition.
“I told Jaron, ‘Don’t forget us little people when you make it big,’” Jaron’s voice teacher, Bernardette Medeiros, said. “He’s got great stage presence and got a great voice.”
Medeiros, 28, also gave American Idol a shot. She stood in line from 4:30 a.m. Tuesday until 9 p.m. to sing “You Raise Me Up,” by Josh Groban.
“They said I had a beautiful voice, but they’re looking for a fresh look,” she said.
Victoria Matthews of Tracy, also Medeiros’ student, sang “Lullaby of Birdland,” but did not make the cut. She took second place in the July Star Quest.
Felicia Zapata of Tracy also competed.
Six more auditions are set in the coming weeks in Dallas; Omaha, Neb.; Atlanta; Charleston, S.C.; Miami and Philadelphia. The show returns to the air in January.

Out of EVERYONE who has won on past seasons of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson is the ONLY ONE to have any REAL and MEASURABLE success beyond ONE hit song. Carrie Underwood shows promise, but she's still too new to know how successful she'll be.
If you're someone who is looking for a successful career as a singer, some TV show is NOT the way to make it. You have an extremely hard road ahead of you, and your chances for success are slim to none. The best thing you can do is research how your favorite artists paid their dues and got their break (usually lots of open mic nights, demo tapes and moving to Nashville or LA) and try those methods.
