amy,

You've got to remember that not all gang members have tattoos. Some members choose not to advertise.

"Most gangs use hand signs to identify their gang and as a form of communication. Hand signs are also used to "flash" a warning or a threat to rival gangs. Some gangs have elaborate hand and body signals, so advanced, that they can have complete conversations without saying a word. These signs are frequently used when they don't want others to know what they are about to do." - fortheunderdog

....or maybe it is a single dot representing the number one, which combined with the four dots means 14."

You could certainly be correct also. Prison gangs modify their markings quite regularly so it is difficult for law enforcement to always be up on their doings.

Awful how they misplace their sense of priorities in the society, their behavior is making life not easy for themselves or anyone else?

Parents, please talk to your young kids about the dangers of joining the gangs before they get to your kids! Won't let them go if they change their minds since they will have too much information on them.

Thanks.

The 4 dots under his left eye signifies "my hood for life"/ "mi barrio por vida" or "mi barrio viene primero" --"my 'hood comes first."

I cannot make out the one mark under his right eye. It may be a teardrop, it may not. Usually that means he has killed someone or lost a friend via rival gang.

fortheunderdog, well that balances it out for cops, needing that 85 percent to get the adrenaline back to normal after the sheer terror of 15 percent!!! ;)
-amy

PS there's a guy (wax figure of a caveman) that looks just like him, at the Natural Museum of History at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.... Knew I had seen that face somewhere!!! Bingo!;)

bella,

Thank you for the compliment. I was not a Tracy police officer but I would like to think that I did my job well. I know my ethics are still intact. I only retired recently.

You're correct in saying that the police are having a harder time doing their job. Seems there is always some attorney who takes to court some claim that the police should not do this, or that, which ties their hands even more.

People watch COPS on tv and think that our job involves vehicle pursuits and foot pursuits everyday. On the contrary. There are some days when radio traffic is sparse and 12 hrs goes by really slow. I like to think of police work as 85% boredom and 15% shear terror. ;) - fortheunderdog

spitfire,

I'm pretty positive that if the 17 yr old is going to be tried as an adult newspapers will publish his name. The fact that he's 17 is reason enough for newspapers not to publish for fear of a lawsuit. - fortheunderdog

Malcolm I knew old wind bag Bilbrey ,I was a nurse. HE WAS ONE OF THE WORSE MAYORS WE EVERY HAD.Cheif krauss was one of the reasons at least two of the best police officers we had on the force took early retiredment. Ives is a joke an so is our city council members. all they love to see is their name in the tracy press, all of them should be FIRED. - bella

Right on bella, but what can we expect since Chief Krauss was in denial about gangs for years, just recently admitted there's a problem. And not enough police coverage for the rapid growth that happened in Tracy the past 15 years under Bilbrey, Ives, Tucker, Tolbert. No parents at home, both working to pay the fat mortgage, leaving their kids unsupervised. Then Tucker saying Tracy doesn't have gangs we have gang wannabees - yeah those too lady! And we also have Councilwoman wannabees with their head in the sand. - Malcolm

foretheunderdog I have a feeling you were one of them good old time police officers. I know we still have afew who are getting ready to retire. that are still great. Hope all these new police officers can do as good as you guy have done for Tracy. But now you can,t say or do anything to the punks or the officers can lose their jobs. The laws have got to change. stop slaping theirs hands and put them away for good. - bella
