Aw shucks, Joyia, listen. I know all Republicans aren't like Odell; heck, I'm an Obamican myself, he'll be the first Democrat I ever voted for (I would have voted for FDR but I was too young in 40 and away in 44). As for my service, it wasn't that much of a sacrifice; I spent six years doing the exact same thing as I did in Elk Hills before and after the War for all my life, only I got to do it in Hawaii and Saipan instead of in Buttonwillow and Tupman. But i appreciate the thanks anyway. - Bar Fann

Bar Fann, You asked, so here's my ansewer. I do not align myself with anyone 100%. I try to see all sides and I try to listen to all opinions with an open mind. I have always voted Republican but I believe some liberalism is good. I DESPISE extremism on any side. I do not tow the party line on all things, religion would be the most prominent. I believe that life is very fluid and if you are not open to adjusting your thinking on occassion that you are doomed to a life of bias and being simple minded. There are people on these post, including you, that I agree and disagree with. No one side has all the ansewers.
Lastly, in regards to the n word. I can honestly say I have never used that word in a hurtful way. The only time I use it is when I am discussing the word and its use. I grew up in Oakland and at one time most of my friends were black. One of my current best friends is black. NONE of them use(d) that word.
And by the way, thank you for serving our country. Regardless of whether I agree or not with the opinion of someone that has served our great nation, I always try to give thanks to them for giving me the freedom to write my opinions. - mark j

Bar Fann I agree with you on the below. Drinks on me. Furthermore, Bar Fann, please explain to Whoopie (cusion) that, I was not around when all of that slavery and N-word was come to be. So Whoopie, if you can read this do not complain to me about the past practices of slavery because I wasn't arouind then so it is definately a case of mistaken idenity. Plus Whoopie, you are so ugly you hurt my feelings! furthermore, get over yourselves.

Hey Joyia, you are right, its all about equality, so since Whoopi and Sherri and Al and Jesse and Snoop are all using the word, you might as well go ahead and keep using it too.

Well put, Odell, thanks for putting your feelings out there so clearly. There is no secret on where you stand on these issues.

What say you Joyia? You are either with US, or you are on the side of Odell with respect to the subject matter of his last post. - Bar Fann

I think it does make him a 'less of a leader' BAR FAN. Our troops in the military are the very foundation of our freedom(s). They are the reasons for #1 just start filling in the reasons. kinda like the saying, if you can read thank a teacher, if you are free to read whatever you want, walk and chew gum and not live in a socialist community you can surely thank our veterans. It was a matter of respect for him to visit the troops. He has no idea of the military. The closest thing to combat boots that OBAMA ever saw was on the cover of the New York Post this past week. - Odell

As for Lance Corporal CPT, Marine by the Grace of God, you shouldn't take it personally that the Acting President of the United States didn't have time to come over and spend time kissing your as; after all, he's got a war to win and sixteen months to do it. Dubya may have thought his main job was to head over there and brown nose people like CPT.

His replacement (the tall black dude) knows that the CIC's real job is to go in there and coordinate with the brass on how to win this war and get our boys back home in 16 mos. Most of us Americans are happy that he's gotten a jump start on things.

I was in Honolulu when Chester Nimitz took over as CinCPac, and by the time he actully put on the extra stars and hoisted his flag, he had already spent 168 straight hours working to get the ships pulled up from the bottom of the bay and figuring out where to stick it to the Japs. When he drove through my fuel depot on his way to the Grayling where he hoisted his flag, he didn't stop to jam his nose up the back of my dungarees. I sure as hell hope that he had better things to do. Does that make him less of a leader? - Bar Fann

I have read interesting news articles which appeared to me to be very objective. However, I found out when they actually wrote about something or event that I had experienced first hand, their interpretation of the facts were far from the truth. Why is that, because they saw the world through their own ideological perspective and they were reporting what they believed to be true and what they thought the facts meant. Human beings are always prisoners of their perspectives. This is why I say read mediamatters which is a leftwing blog. If you agree with what they say, that's fine. But for the sake of getting a fair and balanced view, allow yourself to read a right of center blog, research, or opinion piece and see how they interpret the facts. Personal insults aside, this is the best way to come to a better understanding of the truth. Use your own experience and reasoning to interpret the facts and sharpen it in debate and be suspicious of everything until you do this. There are propagandists out there who twist the facts to represent their view to the exclusion of others. - shurban

One of the amazing things to me is the broad-brushing of people and opinions with loose associations and scare words like "euro socialist" or "leftwing". Now compare that with specific instances of lies and misrepresentations documented by groups like Factcheck.org or Mediamatters.org. The gap between insinuation and documented facts is a canyon filled with mushy brains. - MarkDavis

Mark Davis,

TRUE.

And, furthermore if I was in his (obamas) position I would have to be hog-tied from keeping me in seeing the troops. This guy is a euro socialist. I see a white flag everytime obama waves. - Odell

mediamatters is a leftwing blog. Please go ahead and read it, but get counterpoints also. If Mark Davis suggests it, just know it is on the leftside of the spectrum. Again, there is nothing wrong with seeing this point of view, I just believe in truth in advertising.

JUST SHARING AN EMAIL REC this morning, July 23, 2008

This comment from a US Marine, does not go along with what we saw on national liberal TV

Hello everyone,

As you know, I am not a very political person.
I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to
'The War Zone'.
I wanted to share with you what happened (my perception).
He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle,
got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.
As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand, he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the
conference room to meet the General.
As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel
can play basketball or work out in with weights)Â so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball.
He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service.

So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President.
I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way
over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear, we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheer leaders
than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States.
I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief.
It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but
I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT
American Soldier

American by birth, MARINE by the grace of God

Odell, I was able to find this on Olbermann, although it isn't quite as clearly formatted or carefully researched as Media Matters:

http://www.olbermannwatch.com/

The funniest thing is that I have never watched or heard a single one of these television pundits from any side! Newshour with McNeil/Lehrer is more my speed. Nothing better than 15 minutes with a couple of professors from George Mason speaking in carefully balanced and thought-through sentences. - MarkDavis

I thought the Civil Rights Movement was all about equality and being color blind. Too bad those two peabrains don’t get the concept. It shouldn’t be acceptable for ANYONE to say that word.

Hallauah Mark. Well written letter and I agree one hundred one percent. Some folks here visiting read your letter and said to tell you your letter makes a greta point and are correct. Yes the Civil Rights Movement that the black community wanted so dam bad states they are equal and can not be discriminated against. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Maybe they should staep back and 'get over themselves.' I saw Whoopy Goldburg say that and I thought to myself, what? You can say it but we can not say the N-word? If we can't say it maybe they should take a intellegent hint and NOT use it themselves. Ban the word with a civil fine if anyone is caught using it. Like driving while talking on a cell phone, ban the N-word, if caught using it you get a ticket. Great letter !!! TO: The Whoopi's and Sherri's of the worls, Get over yourselves Whoopi Goldbergs and Sherri Shephards.
